Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this full-time position will be to serve as a front line supervisor to Police Officer I and Police Officer II staff. This position will conduct and oversee criminal and internal investigations as well as managerial inquiries and patient abuse allegations.

This position requires Maryland Police Training Commission Certification requiring the individual to enforce all appropriate Federal State and local laws in a fair and impartial manner.

The selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid drivers license from their state of residence and be DIP trained to operate State vehicles.

This position requires strong investigative skills and abilities as well as good writing and oral communication skills.

All Supervisors will follow the chain of command. This is extremely important; the chain ofcommand is not arbitrary and is meant to be followed. All police operational information willflow through the chain of command. The current chain of command at STIU and all detachments is very clear ascending from the rank of Sergeant Lieutenant Captain Deputy Chief and Chief of Police.

PLEASE NOTE: This position may be reassigned to work different shifts or recalled during weekends holidays or off-hours to meet the Investigative and Operational needs of the MDH Police Department. Detachments that have four or fewer personnel (including Lieutenants and Sergeants) will include Sergeants in the On-Call rotation. Lieutenants may select Sergeants to cover primary on-call responsibilities should the necessity arise and for the good of the agency. All STIU Personnel are designated as Emergency Essential Employees. Your duties are considered Essential and you are subject to being mandated to report requiring you to report to work or remain at work during emergency situations in accordance with established MDH STIU and Maryland policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:Graduation from an accredited high school or high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission regulation.

Experience:Three years of experience as a certified law enforcement officer.

may substitute the possession of an Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or university in law enforcement criminology or related social sciencesfor one year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military serviceexperience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in Protective Service classifications or LawEnforcement specialty codes in theMilitaryPolice Officer field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

for positions in this classification must possess a Police Officer certification as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission at the time of application.

for this classification formerly certified by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission as a Police Officer within the past three years and are eligible for recertification at the time of appointment meet the certification requirement for this classification. The recertification criteria are listed in the Code of Maryland Regulations 12.04.01.07 available at the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

U.S. Citizenship

Must be at least 21 years of age

Satisfactory background investigation including a check of criminal history

Oral interview

Physical examination

Possession of a drivers license valid in the State of Maryland.
