Job Summary

Position Summary
The Senior Welder (Class 3) is the highest-level welder classification within the department. This role is responsible for expert-level welding fabrication blueprint interpretation and quality verification. Senior Welders support complex fabrication projects troubleshoot welding issues mentor lower-level welders and ensure the highest level of weld quality in accordance with workmanship standards customer requirements and WPS specifications.
  • Position is Monday-Thursday night; 4pm-2:30am. OT as needed.
  • Pay is $26-$30 per hour DOE.
  • Shift differential of $3.00 per hour.
Key Responsibilities
Welding & Fabrication
  • Perform MIG TIG and Metal-Core welding including machine setup for all three processes.
  • Fit and fabricate assemblies to print holding required tolerances and ensuring correct joint preparation.
  • Carry out welding exclusively within qualified positions (Flat/Horizontal) unless otherwise specified by a work instruction.
  • Finetune welding equipment to achieve optimal weld characteristics and postweld surface appearance.
  • Troubleshoot welding machine malfunctions wire feed issues gas flow inconsistencies and parameter deviations.
  • Produce complex production parts using fixtures Bluco setups jigs and detailed work instructions.
Blueprint WPS & Technical Interpretation
  • Read and interpret complex engineering blueprints including advanced weld symbols GD&T and multiview assemblies.
  • Ensure stitch patterns fillet sizes locations and weld types match print and WPS requirements.
  • Identify discrepancies or unclear print requirements and communicate with engineering or supervision.
Quality Assurance & Inspection
  • Perform advanced visual weld inspections to detect porosity undercut heat-related defects and size deviations.
  • Use measurement tools such as fillet gauges calipers micrometers height gauges and pin gauges.
  • Determine root cause of weld defects and implement corrective actions independently.
  • Ensure welds comply with WPS parameter ranges process variables and work instructions.
Process & Production Support
  • Follow all facility and welding safety guidelines.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards and conduct preventative maintenance on welding machines.
  • Assist in process improvements related to welding techniques tooling and workflow.
Leadership & Mentorship
  • Provide guidance and technical assistance to Level 1 and Level 2 welders.
  • Support firsttime setups to ensure weld quality and fixture understanding.
  • Coach team members on weld quality expectations and measurement techniques.
Required Qualifications
  • Over 5 years of weld shop or fabrication experience.
  • Expertise in MIG TIG and Metal-Core welding processes.
  • Advanced blueprint and GD&T interpretation skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot weld defects and equipment issues.
  • Proficiency with welding measurement tools and precision QC instruments.
  • Ability to fabricate assemblies to print using fixtures and toleranced fit-ups.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to stand bend lift and handle welded components and fixtures for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely lift materials as required by the job. Up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Work environment may involve sparks heat fumes and PPE usage.
