The Senior Underwriter will lead the evaluation of loan and insurance requests develop underwriting policies and mentor junior team members. This role balances analytical rigor with collaborative communication to protect the firms risk exposure and support profitable growth.
- Review and assess loan applications insurance policies and credit proposals for risk and compliance.
- Analyze financial statements credit reports collateral documents and market data to determine underwriting decisions.
- Draft clear underwriting reports and communicate decisions to sales risk legal and clients.
- Maintain and update underwriting guidelines in line with regulatory changes and company risk appetite.
- Monitor existing portfolios identify emerging risks and recommend corrective actions.
- Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to structure complex transactions and negotiate terms.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior underwriters; lead continuousimprovement initiatives.
- Bachelors degree in Finance Business Economics or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
- Professional underwriting certification (e.g. CPCU ARM) preferred.
- 5 years of underwriting experience in commercial lending insurance or credit risk.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency with underwriting software Microsoft Excel and financial analysis tools.
- High ethical standards and a demonstrated commitment to regulatory compliance.
- Experience managing highvalue or highrisk portfolios.
- Negotiation experience with borrowers brokers or agents.
- Track record of implementing underwriting policies that improve loss ratios.
- Familiarity with the Oklahoma market or regional financial institutions.
- Leadership or mentoring experience within an underwriting team.
- Advanced certifications or graduate education in risk management or finance.
