Job Summary
The Senior Technical Design Manager serves as the technical leader responsible for integrating owners architects engineers process equipment vendors commissioning teams trade partners and construction operations into one high-performing project team.
This role ensures that design decisions support construction execution procurement process requirements startup operational readiness budget schedule quality and long-term facility performance.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the overall design management process from project pursuit through project completion.
Develop and maintain the Project Design Execution Plan.
Manage multidisciplinary design teams consisting of architectural structural civil process mechanical electrical plumbing controls fire protection automation and specialty engineering disciplines.
Coordinate integration of owner-furnished process equipment into the overall facility design.
Ensure design deliverables support procurement fabrication permitting modularization construction sequencing commissioning and startup activities.
Lead executive-level design coordination meetings technical workshops and owner decision-making sessions.
Manage design schedules and ensure alignment with overall project milestones.
Lead constructability value engineering and interdisciplinary coordination reviews throughout the design process.
Organize and lead formal design review processes while ensuring timely resolution of review comments.
Drive real-time resolution of design issues to minimize impacts to cost schedule and quality.
Collaborate closely with Operations Preconstruction Scheduling Procurement Cost Management Commissioning Quality and Self-Perform teams.
Coordinate utility infrastructure including process piping clean utilities specialty gases chemical distribution chilled water electrical systems controls and automation interfaces.
Identify design risks and develop proactive mitigation strategies.
Ensure compliance with applicable codes client standards regulatory requirements and project-specific quality requirements.
Support project pursuits by developing technical strategies execution plans schedules staffing plans and participating in client interviews.
Evaluate and manage design consultants and specialty engineering partners throughout project execution.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Architecture Engineering Construction Management or a related technical discipline.
10 years of experience managing design for complex industrial manufacturing mission-critical healthcare pharmaceutical or large commercial projects.
Experience leading multidisciplinary Design-Build or Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) teams.
Demonstrated experience coordinating engineering consultants specialty vendors and process equipment suppliers.
Strong understanding of permitting procurement construction sequencing commissioning and facility startup.
Working knowledge of BIM platforms including Revit Navisworks Autodesk Construction Cloud or equivalent collaboration tools.
Experience managing technical stakeholders and cross-functional project teams.

The work environment and requirements described below are representative of those necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role.
The Physical Side of the Role: This is an active hands-on role. You can expect to be on your feet frequently navigating active job sites with uneven terrain stairs ladders and hoists. The work is physically demanding and requires a full range of motion including bending kneeling and reaching. Youll need to be comfortable frequently lifting and carrying materials up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. This role requires the ability to communicate effectively as well as visual acuity for reading plans and inspecting work. The role does include desk time in the office that may require prolonged periods of sitting for tasks like computer work document review and meetings.
Your Work Environment: Youll spend a significant amount of your time on active construction sites which means being adaptable to all kinds of weather and moderate to loud noise levels and comfortable in elevated or confined work areas with moving mechanical equipment and with the fast-paced nature of a project in progress. You will also spend time in a typical office setting with moderate noise levels. Clark offers a total compensation package that includes base salary bonus potential and a comprehensive benefits package including health/dental/vision benefits paid time off retirement/401k and Company Contribution plan. For this role the base salary range is $140000 - $260000. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors including a candidates education experience skills and geographic location.
