Job Summary
The Gastroenterology group within AbbVies Immunology therapeutic area seeks a Senior Scientist II to join our GI group in Worcester MA. This position will serve as a people leader who is responsible for interfacing with project teams and then prioritizing and deploying resources to support internal programs. The ideal candidate will have previous industry and people leadership experience and be well-versed in broad immunological and cell biological mechanisms that drive inflammation in the context of autoimmune disease.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as biology lead for GI programs providing scientific leadership and data-driven rationale to support program advancement
- Understand a range of complex GI in vitro models and translate scientific and operational needs into prioritized resource plans ensuring appropriate capacity and expertise to advance programs.
- Independently identify and resolve technical challenges and conceive and implement novel experimental approaches to address scientific questions.
- Demonstrate strong scientific judgment and flexibility by adapting quickly to evolving program priorities and experimental needs.
- Prepare clear data packages slides and presentations for 1:1 and review meetings enabling efficient discussion and decision-making.
- Generate data in a timely manner and communicate results effectively across departments. Maintain accurate and complete experimental records.
- Act as a strong team player in a cross-functional collaborative environment building effective working relationships with internal global and external collaborators while striving for world-class excellence.
- Supervise a team of 23 scientists including performance management coaching and development.
Qualifications :
- PhD in Immunology Biology or related discipline with 2-5 years post-doctoral experience or Bachelors or Masters Degree in biology or related discipline with 15 years of experience
- Extensive experience with primary cell cultures and in vitro cell based assays are required. Experience specifically with primary intestinal epithelial cells/intestinal organoids intestinal fibroblast and human immune cells is preferred
- Experience in complex in vitro models is preferred.
- Experience managing direct reports and providing performance evaluations and development opportunities
- Program management experience within an industry setting
- Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams in a highly matrixed organization.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and capability to overcome complex issues.
- Must have a results-oriented work ethic and a positive can-do attitude with a strong sense of urgency and self-motivated desire to achieve.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is eligible to participate in our long-term incentive programs.
