Job Title: Senior Project Accountant
Reports To: Accounting Manager - Project Accounting
FLSA Status: Exempt
Pay Range: $95000 - $105000 Annually

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review funder billings to ensure accuracy and compliance with grant agreements and Uniform Guidance requirements.

  • Monitor grant expenditures and project cash flow to ensure compliance with funding restrictions and organizational policies.

  • Collaborate with Program Managers to analyze financial performance and conduct detailed budget-to-actual analysis for grants and projects.

  • Review and approve multi-funded transactions across restricted and unrestricted funding sources and recommend appropriate accounting treatment.

  • Prepare and review journal entries related to grant reallocations reconciliations and funding adjustments.

  • Analyze financial activity and ensure proper allocation of costs across multiple funding sources.

  • Generate and review financial reports for internal leadership and external funders.

  • Assist with preparation of documentation for annual financial audits grant audits and compliance reviews.

  • Provide guidance and training to program staff on grant financial management and compliance requirements.

  • Identify opportunities to improve grant accounting processes and financial reporting workflows.

  • Maintain strong working relationships with program teams funders and internal finance staff.

  • Participate in ad-hoc analyses special projects and process improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience preferably in nonprofit or grant-funded environments.

  • Significant experience with fund accounting and multi-source grant funding.

  • Experience with enterprise accounting systems; Workday Financial Management preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with CRM systems such as Salesforce.

  • Ability to interpret complex funding requirements and translate them into operational guidance.

  • Ability to manage multiple funding streams and reporting deadlines.
