Job Summary

Senior Operations / Production Engineer Houston

Energy Talent Search is working with a growing oil and gas company in Houston that is continuing to expand its engineering and field operations organization.

This is a highly visible Operations / Production Engineering role supporting conventional onshore oil & gas assets across multiple producing regions.

The company is looking for an engineer with strong experience tied to:
production optimization
artificial lift systems
field operations
well performance optimization
waterflood / secondary recovery projects
production surveillance and troubleshooting
operating cost reduction initiatives

Responsibilities include:
Monitor lease production and field performance across producing assets
Identify diagnose and resolve issues impacting production levels and operating efficiency
Evaluate and execute opportunities tied to production enhancement and reserve optimization
Support projects involving artificial lift improvements recompletions and waterflood initiatives
Perform well-level and lease-level economic evaluations
Work closely with field personnel and operations teams to optimize production performance
Support operating cost reduction and field optimization initiatives
Participate in development planning and operational improvement projects
Monitor production targets and field performance metrics
Support capital project evaluations tied to production enhancement opportunities
Periodically travel to field locations to support operational initiatives and field optimization efforts
This role offers strong operational exposure visibility to leadership and meaningful influence on production performance and field development initiatives inside a lean engineering environment.



Requirements

Petroleum Engineering degree required
Approximately 510 years of oil & gas industry experience
Strong Operations / Production Engineering experience supporting conventional onshore oil & gas assets
Rockies experience preferred
Experience supporting mature field operations and production optimization initiatives
Artificial lift experience preferred
Experience supporting recompletions and well reactivation projects
Secondary recovery/waterflood experience preferred
Strong field operations and production troubleshooting capabilities
Experience performing economic evaluations and operational analysis
Strong communication and collaboration skills with field operations teams
Ability to work independently inside a lean operational environment
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Willingness to periodically travel to field locations
Completions engineering experience may also be considered relevant depending on overall background



Benefits

Base salary target approximately $145K$190K depending on experience and overall fit
Bonus target approximately 15%20%

Your Leadership & Key Responsibilities: As our Accounting Manager your critical contributions will encompass: Financial Reporting & SEC Compliance: Spearheading the monthly quarterly and annual financial close processes ensuring all financial statements are prepared in accordance with US GAAP. This includes direct involvement in the preparation of schedules and disclosures required for SEC filings (10-K 10-Q 8-K) including oil and gas specific disclosures (e.g. reserve accounting PV-10). SOX Compliance & Internal Controls: Designing documenting implementing and monitoring internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) to ensure Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance. Proactively identifying control deficiencies and implementing remediation plans. Team Management & Mentorship: Directly supervising mentoring and developing a team of four accountants fostering a culture of accuracy efficiency and continuous professional growth. Managing workload distribution and performance evaluations. Upstream E&P Accounting Expertise: Providing expert guidance and oversight on complex oil and gas specific accounting matters including but not limited to: Revenue recognition for oil gas and NGL sales. Joint Interest Billing (JIB) and Joint Operating Agreement (JOA) compliance. Depreciation Depletion and Amortization (DD&A) calculations. Asset Retirement Obligations (AROs). Successful Efforts / Full Cost accounting methodologies (as applicable). Hedge accounting and commodity derivatives. General Ledger & Reconciliation Integrity: Ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger overseeing all balance sheet reconciliations and investigating variances. Audit Management & External Relations: Acting as a primary liaison for external auditors coordinating audit requests providing necessary documentation and addressing audit inquiries to ensure a smooth and timely completion of audits. Process Improvement & System Enhancement: Championing initiatives to optimize accounting processes automate manual tasks and enhance the utilization of our financial ERP system to drive greater efficiency and data reliability. Technical Accounting Research: Conducting thorough research on complex accounting issues particularly those unique to the oil and gas industry and public company reporting and documenting conclusions. Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborating extensively with Operations Land Engineering Investor Relations and Legal departments to ensure alignment and accurate financial reflection of business activities.
