General Job Description

Science and Technology Corporation (STC) is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Liaison to provide part-time technical support to NASA Langley Research Centers D204 organization under the MCHFSS-II contract. The Senior Manufacturing Liaison will serve as a manufacturing subject matter expert supporting the assessment planning and execution of complex test article and research hardware fabrication requirements.

The successful candidate will possess extensive manufacturing and fabrication experience with the ability to assess engineering requirements recommend appropriate fabrication approaches and materials identify manufacturing risks and provide technical guidance necessary to successfully realize complex test articles and research hardware.

The Senior Manufacturing Liaison will work closely with NASA engineering personnel STC fabrication management lead technicians and other project stakeholders to evaluate manufacturability and develop effective fabrication strategies. The position will provide recommendations regarding manufacturing methods material selection and substitution fabrication sequencing machining practices source selection and other considerations affecting cost schedule quality and technical risk.

The candidate will participate in project planning and review activities including project review board meetings to ensure fabrication requirements capabilities constraints risks and schedule considerations are effectively communicated and understood. The candidate will maintain awareness of upcoming fabrication requirements and proactively assist in identifying long-lead materials material alternatives manufacturing resources and potential procurement or production constraints.

The Senior Manufacturing Liaison will provide subject matter expertise in areas including flight and research test articles metallic and composite fabrication precision machining and wind tunnel model manufacturing. The position will assist managers and technical leads in evaluating project risk selecting appropriate fabrication techniques and manufacturing sources and applying sound machining and manufacturing standards.

Additionally the candidate will evaluate fabrication workflows to identify bottlenecks capacity constraints and other factors affecting production efficiency. The Senior Manufacturing Liaison will assist management in developing and implementing process improvements intended to optimize fabrication operations reduce project risk and improve the overall effectiveness of manufacturing support provided to NASA.

General Responsibilities

• Serve as a senior manufacturing subject matter expert and liaison between engineering fabrication management technical personnel and project stakeholders.
• Assess test article and research hardware requirements for manufacturability and fabrication risk.
• Recommend fabrication methods materials material substitutions machining practices and manufacturing approaches.
• Support fabrication planning for metallic composite flight research and wind tunnel hardware.
• Participate in project review boards and other technical or manufacturing planning meetings.
• Identify manufacturing risks constraints long-lead materials and potential schedule impacts early in the project lifecycle.
• Assist with manufacturing source selection and make-versus-buy considerations.
• Work with managers and lead technicians to develop effective fabrication and project execution plans.
• Evaluate fabrication bottlenecks workflow constraints and production capacity concerns.
• Recommend and support implementation of manufacturing process improvements.
• Promote effective communication between engineering customers and fabrication personnel to minimize technical schedule and production risk.
• Provide senior-level technical guidance and mentoring as required to support successful execution of fabrication activities.

ADD REQUIREMENTS

• Extensive experience in advanced manufacturing machining fabrication or closely related technical disciplines.
• Demonstrated experience supporting complex research aerospace flight prototype or one-of-a-kind hardware fabrication.
• Strong working knowledge of machining and manufacturing processes materials fabrication methods and manufacturing standards.
• Experience evaluating engineering requirements and translating those requirements into practical manufacturing approaches.
• Ability to identify manufacturing risks and recommend technically sound solutions or alternatives.
• Experience working collaboratively with engineers technicians manufacturing leads and management.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical manufacturing considerations to multiple levels of an organization.
• Ability to work independently and provide senior-level technical judgment with limited supervision.
• Experience supporting NASA aerospace research wind tunnel testing or similar highly technical manufacturing environments is preferred.
