About the role
Nexteer is looking for a Senior Manager US Tax to lead and manage broad U.S. tax activities for an approximately $2B company. This role will support domestic operations U.S. international tax matters state and local tax obligations indirect tax requirements tax provision compliance audits forecasting and tax planning. The Senior Manager US Tax will partner closely with Finance Accounting Legal Operations Engineering Corporate and external service providers to ensure accurate reporting compliance strong internal controls and practical business support. This position is located in Saginaw Michigan and there will be some travel expected based on business needs.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Manager US Tax you will be responsible for the following:
Tax Provision Accounting and Reporting
- Lead preparation and review of the U.S. tax provision including federal and state current and deferred tax calculations.
- Identify analyze and document permanent and temporary book-to-tax adjustments.
- Oversee deferred tax rollforwards reconciliations tax accounting entries and related tax account analyses.
- Manage calculations modeling and documentation related to U.S. tax law changes and ongoing technical tax requirements including items such as FDII BEAT Section 163(j) and other applicable provisions.
- Support quarterly and annual financial reporting requirements including coordination with Accounting and external auditors.
Federal Domestic and U.S. International Tax Compliance
- Lead completion and review of U.S. federal income tax compliance workpapers and related return support.
- Coordinate U.S. tax compliance activities with external service providers to ensure accurate and timely filings.
- Oversee reporting requirements such as Forms 1099 and 1042 as applicable.
- Coordinate preparation and analysis of U.S. research & development credits.
- Support U.S. international tax compliance including information reporting foreign tax credit analysis controlled foreign corporation considerations and other cross-border requirements applicable to U.S. legal entities.
- Coordinate transfer pricing support for U.S. legal entities and overseas affiliates including Forms 5472 support intercompany documentation and review of intercompany agreements.
State Local and Indirect Tax
- Manage state and local income/franchise tax compliance planning audits and related business support.
- Oversee indirect tax activities including sales and use tax property tax payroll tax coordination and other local tax matters as applicable.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to assess tax impact of business transactions operational changes and compliance requirements.
- Maintain awareness of evolving state local and indirect tax rules and communicate potential impacts to leadership.
Audits Controls and Risk Management
- Coordinate external audit requests and ensure complete accurate and timely responses for U.S. tax matters.
- Manage federal state local property and indirect tax audits including information gathering documentation and issue resolution.
- Ensure tax processes align with internal control requirements and support continuous improvement of tax documentation workflows and governance.
- Identify tax risks and opportunities and provide recommended actions to leadership.
Budgeting Forecasting and Business Support
- Develop U.S. tax budget long-range financial plan cash tax forecast and related tax expense projections.
- Provide current and deferred tax expense inputs by trial balance or business unit as required.
- Prepare variance analyses and communicate key drivers risks and assumptions to Finance and leadership.
- Serve as a trusted tax advisor to business partners on U.S. tax implications of operational and strategic decisions.
Leadership Staff Development and Career Development
- Manage coach and develop tax team members
- Set clear expectations provide timely feedback and support individual development plans and career growth within the tax function.
- Promote a collaborative accountable and continuous-improvement mindset across the team and with cross-functional partners.
Qualifications
- 10 years of relevant tax accounting finance or public accounting experience; experience in a corporate tax environment preferred.
- Strong technical knowledge of U.S. federal U.S. international state local and indirect tax concepts.
- Experience with tax provision compliance tax accounting and tax technology tools such as OneSource or similar platforms preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead people develop talent manage priorities and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
- Strong analytical research problem-solving organizational oral communication and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently exercise sound judgment and make informed recommendations in a complex business environment.
- Understanding of accounting internal controls and financial reporting requirements.
- CPA MST JD/LLM in Taxation or relevant public accounting experience preferred.
Education Requirements
- Bachelors degree in accounting Finance Business or related field required.
