Job Summary
The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) isan independent State agency that regulates Marylands $49 billion insuranceindustry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers andinsurance professionals compliance with State law. Staff members aresubject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers consumers andother public and private entities.
The MIA is charged with a broad range of responsibilities including thelicensure of insurance carriers and insurance producers (brokers/agents)operating in Maryland the conduct of financial examinations of companies tomonitor financial solvency and the review and approval of rates and contractforms. The MIA investigates reports of consumer fraud and consumercomplaints about life health automobile homeowners and/or propertyinsurance. Insurance carriers are subject to market conduct examinationsand other actions to monitor compliance with Maryland law. The MIA alsohas a unit dedicated to consumer education and outreach which participates inhundreds of events and reaches thousands of individual consumers annually.

The MIA is recruiting tofill a Senior Financial Analyst I position with the Financial RegulationDivision. This position represents the lead level of workmonitoring domesticand foreign insurance companies that transact business in Maryland for solvencyand for compliance with applicable laws regulations and other regulatoryrequirements to protect Maryland position performs in-depth analyses of insurers annual andquarterly statements and other filings to identify and assess the insurers exposure to the brandedrisk classifications; and investigates and assesses significant unusualitems fluctuations or other issues found and significant prospective riskswith the potential to affect the solvency of the insurer. The Senior FinancialAnalyst I researches related topics/issues documents significantfindings writes an overall summary prepares draft correspondence andconcludes on the financial condition and statutory compliance of the insurers. In addition the Senior FinancialAnalyst I performs in-depth reviews of the work products of assigned FinancialAnalysts; prepares review notes related to those reviews; and ensures thatareas of concern are properly addressed.
Education:Bachelors degree from anaccredited college or university.
Experience: Three years of experience with astate insurance department a public accounting firm or similar audit entityor another entity in a financial or audit-related area is required.
LicensesRegistrations and Certifications: Active Certified Public Accountant(CPA) Accredited Financial Examiner (AFE) or Certified Financial Examiner(CFE) designation required.
