AsaSeniorSurveillanceEpidemiologist you will serve asasubject matter expertonthecollecting managing and reportingofcommunicablediseasedatain Maricopa County including but not limitedtocase- and lab-based surveillance data as well ashospitalization death and other public health will advancepublic health surveillancecapacity; create datareportsand provide actionable information for decision-makers stakeholders and the public; and support communicable disease environmental-related illness and emergency preparedness and response responsibilities will includeconductingroutine communicable disease surveillanceparticipatinginenhanced surveillance activities duringlarge-scale eventsand public health responses and leading a team of epidemiologistsinthe collection analysis management interpretation and reporting of public health data.

We Require
Three years of experience performing epidemiological or statistical analysis
Masters degree in epidemiology biostatistics or a closely related public health field
A combination of post-secondary education and/orjob-related experience may substitute for theminimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
Job Contributions
Supervises and leads a team of surveillance epidemiologists guiding project development execution and completion
Providessubject matterexpertiseand technicalassistanceon communicable diseasesurveillancesurveillance system design data quality and epidemiologic methods
Leads routine and enhanced surveillance activities to support situational awareness trend monitoring and the early identification of emerging public health concernsfor a variety ofcommunicablediseasesincludingrespiratorygastrointestinal and vaccine-preventablediseases
Designsmaintains and trains epidemiologists in the use of disease surveillance systems data collectiontoolsanddata management processes
Uses statistical software such as SAS or R to analyze public health data and conduct complex epidemiologic analyses evaluationsand statistical reports
Supports the development implementation and continuous improvement of surveillance standards protocols and data governance processes including data request fulfillment
Serves as a subject matter expert in survey design samplingmethodology and complex survey analysesusing tools like REDCap or similar
Develops protocols policies guidance documents presentations training materials and reports to promote best practice in surveillance data management and epidemiologic methods
Collaborates with local state regional and national-level partners tomaintainand improve public health surveillance systems data quality and situational awareness
Participates in emergency preparedness exercises contributes to enhanced surveillance activities and responds to incidents of public health significance as assigned
Working Conditions
Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
Ability to exert up to 10 lbs. occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time
Valid Arizona drivers license is required upon hire
Within one month of hire all employees will be required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles mumps rubella) Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria) Varicella (chickenpox) and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test
