POSITION OVERVIEW
Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Engineer toserve as the Relief Valve & Relief Systems Technical Authority supportingdownstream refining this specialist leadership role you willprovide authoritative pressure relief engineering expertise across multiplerefinery sites in Ohio leading the technical assurance program for reliefdevices and disposal systems. You will play a central role in risk managementregulatory compliance and organizational capability building guidingengineering teams mentoring less experienced staff and drivingstandardization across sites. A background in process design and frontendproject development is a significant asset for this position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the Relief Valve Technical Authoritydelivering expert pressure relief engineering support and direction across alldownstream refinery sites.
- Provide technical reviews troubleshooting and formalapproval of relief device sizing and system calculations; set and implement technicalengineering practices that drive risk management operating efficiency defectelimination and standardization.
- Lead the development and ongoing maintenance oftraining and technical assurance programs for pressure relief sizing anddownstream relief systems.
- Evaluate and approve API 520/521 and flare systemdesign exceptions managing the exception approval process consistently at eachsite.
- Participate in HAZOPs flare risk assessments andincident investigations as required to support safe and reliable operations.
- Standardize and guide the creation of technicaldocumentation for pressure relief and flare disposal systems across theorganization.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operationsmaintenance inspection and other subject matter experts to ensure consistenttechnical practices and integrated solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be legally authorized to work in the UnitedStates.helors degree in Chemical Engineering or a relatedengineering discipline.
- 8 or more years of experience in refining upstream orpetrochemical environments with a minimum of 3 years of focused designexperience in relief systems. Expert or specialized knowledge of relief valvecalculations and relief systems is required. Candidates with fewer total yearsof experience but a deeper concentration in relief systems and flares will alsobe considered.
- Strong working knowledge of pressure relief devicesizing selection and disposal systems including hands-on experience withrelief system calculations.
- Proficiency with process simulation tools such asPetroSim HYSYS PRO/II Aspen Flare Analyzer or AFT Fathom.
- Solid understanding of core process engineeringdeliverables including PFDs P&IDs heat and material balances hydrauliccalculations and overpressure scenario development.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant industry standardsparticularly API 520/521 and API RP 576 with a commitment to continuousdeepening of technical expertise.
- Experience with front-end project development andequipment design is strongly preferred.
- Excellent technical communication skills with ademonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teamsincluding operations maintenance and engineering.
