Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Editor to lead editorial quality control for high-visibility executive correspondence and publications for the National Guard Bureau (NGB). This role sets editorial standards reviews and edits products before they reach senior leadership and mentors other editors on tone format and accuracy.

Responsibilities
  • Review edit and route incoming correspondence daily for grammar formatting and regulatory compliance tracking edits and returning items to originators for correction
  • Assess documents for clarity tone and readability against executive writing standards identifying issues such as passive voice run-on sentences and improper acronym use
  • Upload track and close out completed items in NGBs tasking system coordinating with staff to meet deadlines
  • Provide recommendations on the development coordination and editing of policies instructions memoranda and other formal guidance documents prior to release
  • Review and edit official publications and correspondence analyzing potential impact on related policies or guidance
  • Provide editorial advice and recommendations to staff drafting official documents and tasking responses
  • Manage a queue of documents through editorial review prioritizing work to meet processing deadlines
  • Monitor networks and distribution channels for official announcements editing them for accuracy and format and coordinating release with the appropriate approval authority
  • Serve as editorial subject-matter expert supporting development of formal SOP or business-rules documents including drafting portions and proofreading for compliance
  • Maintain a master policy or procedures document coordinating updates and compliance reviews and publishing once approved
  • Provide editorial and administrative support to senior staff including participation in working groups on new processes and organizational initiatives
  • Review training materials for accuracy and formatting deliver technical editing instruction during staff training events and build supporting presentation materials for executive-writing training
Required Qualifications
  • Active Top Secret clearance; #qinetiqclearedjob
  • Bachelors degree in English Communications Journalism Public Administration or a related field
  • 8 years of experience in executive correspondence technical editing publication review strategic communications and writing-standards compliance within federal military or headquarters organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to brief senior leadership
  • Strong oral and written communication skills including familiarity with standard correspondence and document-formatting conventions
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with military/DoD correspondence standards and working knowledge of the supported organizations mission and structure
  • Ability to exercise independent editorial judgment on sensitive or high-visibility products
  • Experience interfacing with senior military and civilian officials including familiarity with related protocol
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality given the sensitivity of information handled
Pay Transparency

The salary range for this role is $85000 - $100000USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. QinetiQ US considers several factors when extending an offer including but not limited to the role function and associated responsibilities a candidates work experience location education/training and key skills.
