Finnegan Henderson Farabow Garrett & Dunner LLP a global leader in intellectual property law is seeking a Senior Director of Professional Development to lead firmwide attorney development and talent management programs across offices and practice groups. This role focuses on ensuring the firms approach to training career progression and leadership development is structured consistent and aligned with long-term business priorities.

Reporting to the Chief People Officer the Senior Director will shape and operationalize the firms professional development strategy bringing discipline and clarity to how attorneys are onboarded developed evaluated and advanced while partnering closely with firm leadership to strengthen engagement retention and leadership readiness.

The role in action:

  • Establish consistency and clarity across attorney development programs firmwide
  • Translate firm priorities into integrated professional development strategies
  • Advance onboarding training and career progression frameworks
  • Ensure alignment across offices and practice groups on development standards
  • Build and evolve leadership development and succession pipelines
  • Use data and insight to assess development outcomes and inform strategy
  • Lead and develop a high-performing Professional Development function

We are seeking candidates who:

  • Bring significant experience in attorney development talent management or legal practice within a law firm or professional services environment
  • Have partnered at the enterprise level with firm leadership and practice groups
  • Understand how development engagement and retention connect to firm performance
  • Demonstrate strength in designing and scaling development programs
  • Use data and insight to guide talent and leadership decisions
  • Lead with credibility judgment and a balance of strategy and execution
  • Possess 10 years of relevant experience; law firm experience strongly preferred; JD or advanced degree a plus
