Description & Requirements


We are seeking a visionary Sr. Director to serve as the technical and strategic backbone of our Lab Operations Group. This role is designed for a rare multi-lingual scientist who is equally comfortable troubleshooting complex multiomic assays modeling the commercial viability of new genomic products and architecting AI-driven solutions to partner with the COO to optimize lab operations. You will act as a high-level advisor to Broad Platforms leadership team a product strategist and a technologist dedicated to driving success in the scale up of research and clinical offerings. The role will be a mix of cross team cross assay troubleshooting and cultivation of junior team members and deep thoughtful evaluation and product development in emerging areas.


The role influences and guides decision making across Lab Operations and supervises individuals and teams to include the largest of the laboratory operations teams (up to 100 people) focused on advanced molecular and multiomic workflows. Roughly 50% of the role will be focused on existing processes lab teams and troubleshooting while the other 50% will focus on exploring new opportunities to scale services (i.e. Nanobodies).

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Clinical Advisory

  • Expert Troubleshooting: Act as a critical point of escalation for complex technical hurdles within genomics multiomics and functional genomics workflows.
  • Mentorship: Lead and upskill junior product development associates and supervisors fostering a culture of rigorous scientific inquiry and operational excellence.
  • Scientific Advising: Provide cross-functional guidance on the Broads expansive scalable service portfolio ensuring high-fidelity data delivery and clinical compliance.

Operations Excellence and Management

  • Operations Management: Act as a critical point of escalation for complex technical hurdles within genomics multiomics and functional genomics workflows.
  • Bridging Teams: Act as a bridge between Lab Operations Bioinformatics and Development teams to ensure successful operations and smooth product launches.
  • Deep Quality Focus: Build institutional knowledge for in depth data review and analysis for causality (QCs sequencing metrics computational pipelines etc.)
  • Strategic Services Development & Productization
  • Market Analysis: Evaluate emerging technologies and translate them into viable productized scalable services.
  • Costing & Infrastructure: Conduct deep-dive assessments on the true cost of service including baseline infrastructure specialized equipment and personnel requirements.
  • Value Proposition: Partner with Business Unit Leads and commercial teams to define product-market fit ensuring new services are designed for scalability and high user demand.

AI-Driven Operational Innovation

  • Tool Development: Design and deploy AI/Machine Learning models specifically for Operational Process Investigation (OPI)identifying bottlenecks and predicting failures before they occur.
  • Predictive Troubleshooting: Build automated diagnostic tools that analyze high-dimensional lab metadata to streamline root-cause analysis in genomic workflows.
  • Digital Transformation: Lead the integration of computational tools into the physical lab environment to move from reactive to proactive lab management.


Required Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Ph.D. in Molecular Biology Genomics Bioinformatics or a related field with 12 years of post-degree experience (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Domain Expertise: Mastery of NGS functional genomics (CRISPR/Screening) and multiomic integration in a clinical (CLIA/CAP) environment.
  • Strategic Mindset: Proven experience in the business of science including costing models resource planning and product life cycle management.
  • Communication: The ability to explain a complex wet lab failure to a software engineer and a cost-per-sample model to an executive.
The expected base pay range for this position as listed above is based on a 40 hour per week schedule. Broad provides pay ranges representing its reasonable and good faith estimate of what the organization reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary based on factors including but not limited to relevant skills experience education qualifications and other factors permissible by law.
