Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan deploy and manage Azure SQL databases in both operational and analytical environments.
  • Monitor database health performance and security and ensure compliance with organizational standards.
  • Collaborate with data analysts data modelers and engineers to support date lake business intelligence and analytic needs.
  • Create and manage database objects (schemas tables views procedures).
  • Investigate diagnose and remediate databases by recommending indexes partitions and other techniques to optimize data structures and improve query performance.
  • Participate in database migrations and refresh non-production environments with production data.
  • Assist in developing automation strategies and techniques for deployment and management.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for databases and cloud configurations policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to cloud native backup fail-over and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Support production on-call rotation for database administration.

What Youll Bring:

  • Strong knowledge of database administration and development especially Azure SQL Server.
  • Experience with cloud technologies specifically in an Azure environment Windows Linux and on premises and cloud networking.
  • Experience with implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines Infrastrastructure as Code as well Version Control solutions like Github
  • Excellent troubleshooting analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
  • Self-motivation curiosity and commitment to continuous learning.
  • Familiarity with data warehouse/data lake standards as well as associated business intelligence tools.

Work Location:

Hybrid This position offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement. While most responsibilities can be effectively performed remotely we value in-person collaboration and ask for a minimum on-campus presence once a month for essential meetings or activities. Ideally we prefer three days per week on campus. For employees residing out of state travel costs will be the employees responsibility. The work schedule will follow core business hours in the Colorado Mountain Time zone. Although we give preference to candidates based in Colorado or nearby our ultimate goal is to hire the best candidate for the role regardless of location.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelors degree in Information Systems Computer Science Engineering Business Information systems or a closely related field.

Substitution:4 years of professional or high-level technical work experience may be substituted for the Bachelors degree. An associates degree with two years of relevant work experience may be substituted for the bachelors degree

Experience:

SENIOR:

2 years of MS SQL Server Database Administration experience.

PRINCIPAL:

3-5 years of MS SQL Server Database Administration experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in support of 24x7 five-nines enterprise production environment
  • Experience in public higher education state or federal government.
  • Operational Data Store Data Warehouse Data Lake and/or Business Intelligence ecosystem experience.
  • Experience in data visualization tools such as PowerBI and Tablaeu
  • Experience in managing an automated database environment via CI/CD Pipelines API integrations and Terraform Infrastructure as Code
  • Experience in Oracle Database Management Systems 19c and above

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of database administration and development and systems administration concepts leveraging industry best practices.

  • Ability to work in Microsoft database environments both on premises and in the cloud.

  • Experience writing troubleshooting optimizing and debugging PL/SQL code.

  • Self-motivation with good organizational troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to educate mentor communicate and effectively present ideas/plans with business and stakeholders to gain consensus.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver outcomes independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously managing time and prioritizing tasks.

  • Working knowledge of HIPAA and NIST 800-53 and NIST 800-171 security controls.

  • Experience working in a VMWare clustered environment

  • Familiarity Oracle Windows Linux/ shell scripting networking data transfer and data security in transit and at rest.

  • Experience configuring and supporting Windows Server and/or Linux environments related to database workloads

  • Experience with data compliance and classification.

  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and utilize new technologies and software.

  • Experience using documentation tools and source code repositories (Confluence GitHub etc.)

  • Exceptional analytical conceptual and problem-solving abilities.

  • Curiosity self-motivation and a desire for continuous learning.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as

Senior Level $75000 - $95000.

Principal Level $90000 - $114409.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the Universitys good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
