Overview
ExxonMobil is hiring a Senior Contracts Advisor to support a major offshore development administering multiple large upstream contracts and purchase orders at once from the Spring campus in the Houston area. The work spans subsea fabrication and installation with contract values reaching into the billions of dollars and there is a strong runway of future projects behind it making this a long-term seat on a growing team. It is an administrative contract management role not a people-management one: the day-to-day focus is change orders negotiations and keeping several contractors aligned without losing the relationship.
Responsibilities
Administer and manage multiple major subsea contracts and purchase orders concurrently including agreements with TechnipFMC and Saipem covering upstream fabrication and installation.
- Lead or support negotiations on change orders and contested contract terms working with the project team to reach alignment.
- Coordinate the full change control process including amendments change notices change orders and the change order and deviation logs.
- Build working relationships with contractors and vendors while holding the contract position staying firm and fair through difficult negotiations.
- Develop contracting plans and invitation-to-tender packages and maintain a clear record of correspondence questions and clarifications.
- Review contractor subcontracting plans and deliverables for compliance with company requirements.
- Monitor and approve the invoicing and payment process across assigned contracts.
- Expedite and file contractor commercial documents including insurance certificates parent company guarantees and letters of credit.
- Measure contractor performance and report results to project and functional management.
- Lead internal kickoff meetings and support external ones covering contract terms the change order process and claims avoidance.
- Partner with a 14-person team and business leads across two to four simultaneous projects providing day-to-day contract administration.
- Manage contract documentation and execution through Microsoft Office and DocuSign.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
10 or more years of contracts administration or contracts engineering experience including large upstream contracts in the $1B range.
- Commercial negotiation experience with the ability to work firmly and fairly across multiple contractors vendors and personalities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple contracts and stakeholders at the same time typically 2 to 4 projects concurrently.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and DocuSign.
- Willingness to travel approximately 20% mostly single-day trips to contractor and vendor offices in Texas and Alabama.
- Candidates with 10 to 15 years of experience and a background as an owner or operator with subsea exposure may be considered at the Intermediate level.
Preferred Qualifications
- Subsea fabrication and installation experience.
- Prior contracts experience working for an operator or owner.
- Engineering degree.
- Professional certification such as CPM CPSM APICS or PMP.
