We currently have an opening for a Senior buyer in our Troy location. Responsibilities include:

  • Purpose: Under the direction of the Materials Manager buy and/or contract the purchase of materials from suppliers at the lowest cost consistent with consideration of quality reliability of source and urgency of need.
  • Dimensions: This position will have frequent interface with vendors as well as consistent interaction with other Plant personnel. Responsible for annual purchases in excess of $.

  • Responsibilities/Principal Duties:



  • Plan and analyze material requirements for assigned materials using available forecast historic information current industry information and company inventory objectives.
  • Maintain records and files relative to planning activities to assure information availability to other required personnel.
  • Purchase raw materials and finished goods as assigned at best possible cost and quality to meet company specifications.
  • Investigate new sources and products to improve quality and cost.
  • Maintain adequate sources to guarantee consistency of supply.
  • Interview current and prospective suppliers.
  • Expedite material requirements as assigned to prevent interruptions in customer service and production shortages.
  • Review item or material needs with various departments and investigate new sources of supply as required.
  • Select or recommend suppliers with whom orders are to be placed and schedule deliveries.
  • Notify Manager of inventory level changes relative to budget.
  • Control stock levels in the economical quantities in order to minimize investment affecting storage cost handling and obsolescence while utilizing acceptable techniques including ABC analysis economical order quantities and other principles of inventory control.
  • Review the operational forecast on a monthly basis to uncover abrupt turning points in market trends.
  • Perform detailed forecast statistical analysis at the product model level for historical current and long range time frames.
  • Study market trends.

Qualifications:



Education: B.B.A. Degree (Business Administration) or equivalent.

Experience: 5 plus years experience purchasing/buying and inventory control experience in a manufacturing environment. Excellent negotiation basic accounting and inventory control skills.
