Senior AnalystCounsel AI Governance

About This Role

Based in Washington DC and reporting to the Senior Director for the Center for Artificial Intelligence this role will contribute to FPFs work on corporate AI risk management and governance and support a broad AI law and policy portfolio. This involves coordinating with FPF members to conduct benchmarking facilitate small group discussions analyze emerging governance resources and tools and research and write substantive legal and policy resources for members on emerging AI governance issues.

Areas of focus may include for example researching writing and speaking about emerging AI-related law and policy; working collaboratively with senior corporate executives to benchmark and establish best practices (or similar guidance/resources) in emerging practical AI governance issue areas; and investigating novel future-looking technical policy issues.

This is a new position designed to address emerging membership needs related to AI governance. Depending on the candidates experience the role may be filled at the Fellow Policy Counsel/Analyst or Senior Counsel/Senior Analyst level. We are seeking candidates with a strong interest in AI governance data protection and privacy who also have a desire to help define build and grow FPFs AI Governance portfolio in line with FPF strategic objectives and membership needs. This may include contributing to establishing success metrics determining resource needs and helping create the operational framework for this new role. As the data governance world continues to rapidly evolve a successful person in this role should also be flexible and able to rapidly adapt to significant shifts in priorities policies and practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Tracking analyzing and informing FPF members on global AI governance efforts such as management of agentic AI systems and protocols; standards-setting efforts (e.g. ISO NIST) LLM benchmarking efforts developments in AI auditing and certification bodies; developments in conducting PIAs DPIAs and similar risk assessments (including using AI tools).

• Researching and writing aboutemerging global data protection AI and related regulations with a focus on the novel areas of intersection between AI and data protection law.

• Exploring cutting edge technical questions involving generative AI models for example agentic standards setting (MCP A2A) model transparency efforts deletion and consumer choice mechanisms;

• Informing public policy through regular blog posts white papers and public speaking at Privacy and AI Governance-focused conferences

• Contributing to efforts to enable our corporate members to network and benchmark with each other including working collaboratively with the Membership Team to support convenings of FPFs Privacy Executives Network

Skills and Experience:

• J.D. or other relevant advanced degree (e.g. LLM MPA MPP)

• 0-7 years of relevant work experience (including internships fellowships or academic research for early-career candidates). An ideal candidate for the more senior level would have some experience working in-house in an AI governance or privacy risk management capacity or have similar relevant experience working directly with corporate stakeholders (e.g. law firm or consulting experience). Early-career candidates should demonstrate strong academic experience relevant internships or research/writing in AI privacy or data protection.

• Working knowledge of or strong demonstrated interest in AI Governance (for example through the AIGP certification relevant coursework academic research or prior work experience).

• Familiarity with core privacy and data protection law and policy (e.g. GDPR CCPA) and an interest in how these frameworks intersect with issues related to the development and deployment of AI systems. Depth of expertise expected will scale with the candidates level of experience.

• Demonstrated ability to research understand distill and explain highly complex technical and legal issues to a range of audiences

• Ability to work in a highly collaborative and fast-paced team environment;

PreferredSkills and Experience:

• Cybersecurity knowledge or experience isstrongly preferred

• An ideal candidate has a solid understanding of the data flows underpinning modern mobile and web ecosystems (e.g. HTML mobile/web cookies APIs web scraping etc.). Any technical savvy or demonstrated experience working with technologists or engineers is a plus.

Location and Work Expectations:

• The position is located in FPFs office in downtown Washington DC which has a 3 days/week in-person office requirement. FPF Education and Innovation Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization.

Salary Range

Our typical salary ranges include:

• For a Senior Counsel/Senior Analyst Role (3-7 years experience): $115000 - 140000
• For a Counsel/Analyst Role (1-3 years experience): $
• For a Post-Graduate Fellowship Role (0-1 years experience): $75000. Fellowships at FPF typically involve a 1-year commitment (or other defined period) and include salary and benefits.
