Job Summary

Summary

The Senior Analyst will take on a hands-on role within the Controllers organization working across accounting business processes data and technology through a structured rotational program designed to provide broad exposure to key Controllership and Corporate Finance functions.

In this role the Senior Analyst will support essential controllership activitiesincluding month-end close accruals payables payroll receivables and financial reportingwith a focus on gaining a strong foundation in how these processes operate while contributing to efforts that improve efficiency accuracy and compliance.

The position will also assist in the ownership and improvement of finance systems and processes. This includes helping translate accounting and reporting requirements into effective workflows data solutions ERP capabilities and automation opportunities. Working across Finance Operating Sites Value Services (AP/Billing/Payroll/SAP Data) and IT the Analyst contributes to delivering reliable financial information supporting system implementations strengthening controls and generating value from technology investments.

Ideal candidates bring a broad foundation in accounting and/or finance gained in a corporate environment along with motivation to expand their skills across multiple areas. Experience with SAP/ERP financial systems is beneficial and a strong desire to learn take initiative and build a diverse and progressive skillset is essential. Experience in the utilities sector as well as advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.

This role sits at our Corporate HQ in White Plains NY and up to 25% travel is expected primarily to collaborate with our Operating Sites at various locations within New York State.

Responsibilities
  • Design and maintain automated financial and reporting tools and systems that ensure quality information and reports are delivered to senior management on a timely basis.
  • Identify emerging needs and implement additional reports to present data in a concise and useful fashion.
  • Design and implement models and analysis to quantify the potential impacts of industry changes and changes in NYPAs overall business including both financial and business development.
  • Identify recommend and implement opportunities to streamline processes or improve computer model systems.
  • Interpret results from various analysis and communicate actionable recommendations to senior management either verbally or in writing about the preferred way to proceed along with alternative scenarios.
  • Represent the Finance department throughout the organization as a trusted business partner bringing value added financial acumen to cross functional groups and projects.
  • May lead junior team members in completion of special assignments and analyses as assigned by management.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient knowledge of economics finance and accounting. Proficiency with the electric utility industry and NYISO market strongly preferred. Familiarity with oil & gas markets hedging structures and instruments Public Service Commission and FERC policy and process and financial and bond markets a plus.
  • Excellent analytical skills required including statistical and quantitative analysis and the use of spreadsheets and databases to analyze past and forecast future financial trends. Ability to analyze financial marketing and operational data and make recommendations based on the analysis.
  • Ability to solve problems work in a team setting on implementations and meet project deadlines. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel Word and Power Point and other computer applications and file organization procedures is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to use pivot tables tables and database formulas within Excel at an advanced level
  • Working knowledge of Access SAP Products NYISO DSS treasury management systems is preferred. Visio knowledge is desirable.
  • Ability to work closely with others in achievement of group and cross-departmental goals.
  • Willingness and ability to research and learn new areas as the business needs change.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize job assignments and complete tasks in a timely manner with limited supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and mentor junior staff.
  • An overall understanding of NYPAs operations preferred
  • Ability to anticipate problems/issues and share them with others as appropriate.
Education Experience and Certifications
  • Bachelors degree in Finance Business Economics Mathematics or related discipline..
  • Masters degree preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of related analytical business experience preferred.
  • Utility experience with an understanding of corporate finance and governmental regulations and requirements preferred.
  • Strong understanding of corporate finance preferred.
Physical Requirements

Approximately 10% travel primarily to NYPA sites within NY State
