Job Summary
Were looking for a Senior Alarms Electronics Technician. You will provide advanced technical support for the installation maintenance design modification testing repair programming and data management of data-gathering panels control systems fire alarm systems emergency voice alarm systems Life Safety Systems and related computer-controlled infrastructure. You will troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues applying established guidelines procedures and diagnostic techniques to make informed decisions and ensure system reliability and performance. This position is within the Emergency Management Department (EMD) Alarms Division. This position may require work at Site 300 located in Tracy California.
This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.
You will
- Design modify install program and repair specialized computer-controlled interfaces Life Safety Systems specialized detection systems including fire alarm and fan control panels fire suppression systems emergency and general-use voice systems criticality alarm systems and refrigerant/oxygen monitors.
- Utilize multimeters digital scopes digital/logic analyzers frequency meters and other testing equipment to identify and resolve complex technical issues and develop or evaluate test procedures determine circuit requirements and develop application software.
- Set up and operate intricate systems and electronic equipment such as data-gathering panels computer-controlled interfaces fire alarm systems emergency voice paging systems and refrigerant monitors in support of the repair and maintenance of LLNLs Life Safety Systems and Infrastructure Systems in accordance with approved procedures.
- Interpret specifications from complex computer-controlled interfaces data-gathering panels Fire and Emergency Voice alarm blueprints diagrams specifications software and systems programs schematics and operation/product manuals.
- Review interpret write and document computer-controlled interfaces data-gathering panels and Fire and Emergency Voice alarm test results to identify and resolve complex technical problems report results and/or recommend solutions.
- Collect data and provide in-depth analysis and evaluation of complex technical electronics data utilizing computer-based data acquisition and controls to report results and assist in the Fire and Emergency Voice alarm design controls engineering planning and decision-making process.
- Independently interact on a regular basis with scientists engineers and skilled technical personnel with follow-up to supervisors outside the work group as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Associate degree in electronics computer maintenance electro-optics or another relevant field or an equivalent combination of related technical education and experience.
- Advanced skills technical knowledge and understanding of computer-controlled interfaces data-gathering panels and Fire and Emergency Voice alarm analog and digital electronics technology including Fire and Emergency Voice alarm electronic controls and interlocks.
- Interpret computer-controlled interfaces data-gathering panels and other related or unrelated alarm subsystems blueprints and electronic schematics diagrams specifications and software and systems program operation/product manuals.
- Advanced skills and significant experience in the use of multimeters digital scopes digital/logic analyzers frequency meters and other test equipment associated with testing and troubleshooting electronic circuits.
- Significant experience analyzing complex technical electronics data to resolve complex technical problems.
- Possess effective organizational attention-to-detail accuracy and follow-through skills including written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with all levels of management technical and administrative personnel.
- Intermediate computer skills and experience using software such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to participate in specific on-the-job training such as operational or equipment training.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule overtime on-call assignments shift work and weekends in all buildings and areas of Site 200 and Site 300 to accomplish goals. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds be medically qualified to wear protective equipment and work in confined spaces; possess a valid California drivers license.
Qualifications We Desire
- Experience in performing preventative and corrective maintenance on electronic systems.
- Experience with LLNLs Intelligent Control Processor (ICoP) data-gathering system. Familiarity with LLNL Site 200 or Site 300 Fire and Alarm Life Safety Systems; knowledge of Integrated Safety Management (ISM) LLNL and EMD policies and procedures.
- Experience with programming / configuring and installing an Intelligent Control Processor (ICOP).
- Experience with installing and working with network switches.
- Experience programming Siemens XLS and DESIGO Fire Alarm panels.
Pay Range
$52.23 - $63.97 Hourly
This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employees position within the salary range will be based on several factors including but not limited to specific competencies relevant education qualifications certifications experience skills seniority geographic location performance and business or organizational needs.

Site 300 is an experimental test site operated by LLNL. Situated on 7000 acres in rural foothills approximately six miles southwest of downtown Tracy and 15 miles southeast of Livermore Site 300 hosts approximately 200 employees with expertise in such fields as engineering chemistry biology and environmental restoration. Employees assigned to work at Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis).
Security Clearance
This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. If you are selected we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
