Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Accountant to join our Finance Department!
Reporting to the Director of Finance you will perform advanced accounting duties requiring the application of complex accounting principles and practices to effectively support management and other leadership team members in assessing and improving the organizations financial standing. You may complete various administrative organizational and analytical tasks to monitor the financial health of the organization.

What Youll Do
- Prepare and file sales and use taxes.
- Research state and country tax and compliance issues.
- Assist with the preparation of tax returns by examining company accounts and records compute tax returns according to laws and regulations.
- Assist in the review of budget submissions in Workday Adaptive; assist with organizational budget preparation and ongoing projections.
- Prepare various accounting papers schedules reconciliations and summaries. May develop nonstandard reports and statements.
- Assist with financial audits.
- Review independent contractor determinations.
- Assist with banking relationships.
- Manage application process of AAAS corporate insurance program and issue certificates of insurance upon request.
- Coordinate reporting for the subsidiary board meetings; record the activity of the subsidiaries via monthly journal entries; provide support to the daily management of the organizations US based for-profit subsidiary AAAS Fellowship Programs Inc. (AFPI) including monthly journal entries i.e. payroll and other account reconciliations.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Position requires extensive university or college level training leading to a Bachelors degree (Accounting or Finance major).
- Five to seven years accounting experience and knowledge of GAAP/GAAS and FASB requirements ideally in a non-profit setting. Must have exceptional knowledge of accounting and financial principles regulations and best practices along with an understanding of governmental guidelines and tax laws that could impact the organization.
- Highly motivated self-starter with strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
- Highly organized with a keen attention to detail.
- Proficient with data analysis critical thinking as well as research and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication as well as solid interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer skills and experience with spreadsheet programs and financial databases.
- Workday Adaptive (budget and planning) experience desired.

The anticipated initial rate of compensation for this position is between $90000 and $110000 per year. Additional benefits may apply.
