Job Summary
| PURPOSE |
Ambler Metals is exploring the highly prospective Ambler Mining District in Alaska home to the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects and significant copper-dominant polymetallic deposits. Reporting to the Vice President Finance the Senior Accountant supports accurate and timely financial reporting by completing account reconciliations month-end accruals journal entries and general ledger reviews. The role partners with accounting team members vendors and cost center owners to maintain reliable financial records support budget controls and strengthen month-end close processes. |
| Accountabilities |
Accounting Operations and Month-End Close Participate in month-end quarter-end and year-end closing activities including follow-up on outstanding items and support for timely financial reporting. Coordinate month-end accrual information including contacting vendors regarding open purchase orders for unbilled goods and services and reviewing proposed accruals with cost center owners. Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation as requested by the Managerial Accounting Manager and Financial Reporting Manager. Assist the Accounts Payable Clerk with general ledger coding and confirm alignment with approved cost center budgets. Assist cost center owners in preparing purchase orders and verify that requests align with approved budgets. Maintain complete accurate and audit-ready supporting schedules for assigned accounts and transactions. Analyze financial results and investigate variances against budget forecast and prior periods documenting findings and escalating significant issues as appropriate. Assist in developing and improving financial reporting processes and controls while applying accounting policies and internal control requirements consistently. Resolve audit queries by preparing supporting documentation coordinating responses with relevant stakeholders and implementing agreed recommendations as appropriate. Support budgeting and forecasting activities by providing accurate historical financial data account analysis and relevant explanations of trends and variances. Participate in finance transformation and process improvement initiatives including identifying opportunities to improve efficiency accuracy standardization and reporting quality. Provide ad hoc accounting analysis and project support to the Vice President Finance and accounting managers as required. Reconcile bank statements and prepare reconciliations for review approval and posting in Sage. Reconcile payroll benefits receivable liability and other balance sheet accounts; investigate variances and prepare adjustments to ensure accuracy. |
Qualifications Skills and experience
Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance Business Administration or a related discipline. Ideally working toward a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation. Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP; exposure to IFRS is an asset. |
Strong account reconciliation general ledger and month-end close skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office particularly Excel. Sage 300 experience ideal but not necessary. Ability to analyze account activity identify discrepancies and prepare accurate adjustments. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet month-end deadlines. Clear professional communication skills for working with vendors cost center owners and internal stakeholders. High level of accuracy attention to detail confidentiality and sound judgment. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the broader finance team. |
A minimum of three years of progressive accounting experience including hands-on responsibility for reconciliations journal entries accruals and month-end close support. |
