Description of Work
The North Carolina Aquariums on Roanoke Island is seeking a dynamic efficient and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Security/Greeter within the Visitor Services of the North Carolina Aquariums. The Security Guard/Greeter reports to the Visitor/Member Services Coordinator and is a member of the Visitor Services Team. The person in this position will work closely with the Security Chief and other security and visitor services staff.Key Responsibilities:
Ensuring the safety and security of all staff and visitors the Aquarium facility exhibits displays and work areas.
Provides front-line customer services to all visitors; greets school and bus tour groups assists with parking and unloading of groups.
Provides information and assistance to visitors; handles visitor complaints and problems; identifies safety issues maintains visitor accident log investigates visitor accidents and injuries.
Opens and secures building at the beginning and end of each day; provides presence in all areas of the Aquarium and grounds.
Provides special events and after-hours facility rental security. This person must have experience working with the general public and have excellent customer service skills.

Recruitment Range: $31200 - $37252

Candidates meet the minimum qualifications of this position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed onthe vacancy announcement. Vacancy specific knowledge skills and abilities (KSAs) and/or management preferences are notrequired. Applicants who possess the following are preferred:
- Demonstrated working knowledge of standard safety and security operations at a zoo aquarium museum or similar facility.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of standard methods of handling and reporting emergencies.
- Demonstrated experience with the use of a two-way communication system and a closed-circuit security monitoring system.
Position/Physical Requirements:
- Weekend evening and holiday work will be required.
- Must meet DNCR Fleet Safety Guidelines and have ability to obtain and maintain a valid drivers license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
- Recommended candidate will be subject to a background check prior to hiring.
- Must be or become CPR and First Aid Certified

Education and Experience

The North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Islandis located in Manteo NC nine miles from the Atlantic coastline in Nags Head. The 61000 square-foot facility is sited on 16 acres overlooking the Croatan Sound and houses over 2200 animals. More than 280000 guests visit the aquarium each year to see a large array of sharks learn about sea turtle conservation participate in a variety of programs enjoy the beauty of the area and learn why North Carolinas waterways are so special.

Veterans and National Guard Preference
Applicants seeking Veterans Preference must attach a DD Form 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty along with the state application.
Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach an NGB 23A (RPAS) along with the state application if they are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing.
Applicants who are former member of either the NC Army National Guard or the NC Air National Guard with honorable discharge and six years of creditable service must attach a copy of the DD 256 or NGB 22 along with the state application.

Sign On Bonus Eligibility
To be eligible for a sign-on bonus the candidate must not have worked as a probationary permanent or time-limited employee in the last 12 months as an employee in North Carolina state government including without limitation the judicial system state executive branch agencies and the university system subject to the State Human Resources Act. Employee eligible for a sign-on must work at least 20 hours per week.
