Position Overview
The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire a Security Officer Sergeant for the Alton Mental Health Center located in Alton Illinois. Provides security to all areas of the Alton Mental Health Center. Patrols hospital grounds and buildings. Assists facility staff with management of combative patients. Prepares incident and investigative reports. Makes rounds of inspection. Schedules security officers in conducting critiquing and documenting emergency drills. Participates in searches for missing patients and enforces traffic regulations. Serves as lead worker to lower-level staff.
Essential Functions
- Provides security to all areas of the Alton Mental Health Center.
- Serves as designated lead worker.
- Patrols hospital grounds and buildings by foot and by state vehicle to look for breaches of security unsafe and hazardous conditions.
- Conducts investigation for the purpose of compiling actual witness statements preservation and presentation of evidence and preparation of written investigative reports.
- Schedules security officers in conducting critiquing and documenting emergency drills.
- Responds to alarms and assists in the evacuation of patients during drills and emergency situations.
- Enforces vehicle speed parking regulations and other traffic regulations at the facility.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school.
- Requires one year of experience in safety and protection service or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years of professional experience working with security requirements and regulations for a public or private organization.
- Three (3) years of professional experience working with emergency response procedures including fire safety and controls for a public or private organization.
- Three (3) of professional experience participating/conducting investigations into allegations of burglaries vandalism patient injuries and traffic accidents.
- Three (3) years of professional experience providing leadership directing and supervising staff for a public or private organization.
- Three (3) years of professional experience providing initial responses to security breaches and safety hazards.
- Three (3) years of professional experience preparing reports communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to work after business hours weekends and holidays.
- Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
- Requires a valid drivers license.
- Requires the ability to become OIG rule 50.3 certified within 90 days of employment.
- Requires the ability to obtain and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
- Requires the ability to pass CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training.
- Requires the ability to physically restrain patients as necessary to prevent injury to patient or others.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
