POSITION PURPOSE

The Security Police K-9 Officers primary responsibility is to ensure the safe and secure environment for all patients staff and visitors to the Trinity Health Hospital West Market Campuses.

A Security Police K-9 Officer performs general security police duties in the Security Police Department of Trinity Health West Market.The Security Police K-9 Officer under supervision of Security Police Chief will provide services toincludesecurity patrols preservation of peace assurance of safety customer service report writing administering first aid detection and prevention of criminal activity and effect arrests within the parameters of security police policy procedures directives as well as state and federal law.

K-9 Officers provide on-dutyresponseto calls where the presence of the K-9 Team is likely to aid in a favorable resolution.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintains the confidentiality of informationacquiredpertaining topatient physicians colleagues and visitors to Trinity Health. Discusses patient and hospital information only amongappropriate personnelinappropriatelyprivate places.

Behavesin accordance withthe Code of Conduct Service Excellence Standards and the Mission VisionValuesand policies of Trinity Health.

Assumes responsibility forperformanceof job duties in the safest possible manner to assure personal safety and that of coworkers and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practicesimmediatelyto management.

Representsthe Trinity Health West Market byproviding assistanceand guidance to all patients staff and visitors to the Trinity Health West Market Campuses.

Patrols andmonitorsthe internal and external activities of the grounds parking lots structures and buildings to ensure compliance with health center policies state law and federal laws reporting all violations to a supervisor also known as a command officer.

Responds appropriately to a variety of potential and/or real emergencies fire and building alarms extraordinary events (patient standby/restraint) person(s) with weapons medical emergencies and/or any other public safety related incident.

Exercise reasonable independent judgment within legal parameters of law todeterminewhen there is reasonable suspicion to detain and/or search when probable cause exists to arrest and theappropriate applicationof force used to preserve life and property.

Responds to any and all reports of criminal activity and effect arrests as appropriate within the parameters of security police policy/procedures state and federal law and Michigan Commission of Law EnforcementStandards (MCOLES); utilizing the necessary force to effect arrest using handcuffs and other restraints in accordance with department procedures policies and regulations.

Completes a daily activity report documenting non-routine activities for referral to theappropriate manager.

Completes a written report involving a complaint and/or investigation of criminal activity violation of security police policy and procedure suspicious activity and/or any incident involving the use of force.The employee shallutilizetheappropriate documentingprocedures and complete the report in its entirety.

Completes asassignedall defibrillator and vehicle maintenance checks.

Maintains all security police equipment in workingcondition.

Proactively recognizes and reports to command officer (Chief Lieutenant Sergeant) any safety risks and/or hazards and whenpossibletakes immediate action to reduce or remove the risk and/or hazard.

Responds to complaints generated by patients staff and visitors including reports of lost property suspicious activity improperaccessand suspicious packages.

Responds to general assist calls generated by patients staff and visitors including locking/unlocking doors vehicle lockouts and jumpstarts wheelchair assists and or any customerservice-relatedissues.

Reports to Grounds any parking lot gates not functioning properly. Issues citations for improper parking handicap and fire lane violations.

Self-reports to a command officer any off-duty police contact arrests and court orders such as Injunctions Personal Protection Orders and legal proceedings that would prevent the employee from owningpossessing or carrying a firearmi.e.Domestic Violence Order or conditional bond release.Failure to report this information will result in immediate termination.

Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships.Approachesconflict in a constructive manner.Identifiesproblems offers solutions andparticipatesin their resolution.

Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal State local laws and regulations Trinity Health Standards of Conduct the Organizational Integrity Program Security Police policy and procedure and any related policies and procedurespertaining tothe adherence of behavior that reflects honest ethical and professional behavior.

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

K-9 Teams shallparticipatein such public relation appearances and educational demonstrations.Requests must be routed directly to the K-9 Coordinator. It is the responsibility of the K-9 Coordinator to update the Chief of Security Police of the request and toidentifywhich K-9 Team(s) willparticipatein the event.

K-9 Teams shall perform in such a way as to elicit a favorable resolution in difficult or stressful situations and extraordinary eventsi.e.crowd control explosive detection standby/restraintand person with weapons.

Non-Trinity Health West Market agency requests for K-9assistancemust be routed directly to the K-9 Coordinator. It is the responsibility of the K-9 Coordinator to update the Manager/Chief of the request.

Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Education:Highschool diploma or equivalent.Associate degree preferred.

Experience:Minimum1 year of experience in campus security/police military or law enforcement.

Certification/Licensure:

• Current MCOLES license preferred or ability to pass MCOLES PA330 Academy Training within six months of hire date or the first available academy.

• Maintainthe qualifications required by MCOLES and the State of Michigan.

• Maintain a valid unrestricted Michigan drivers license.

• Demonstrates the ability tooperatean Electronic Control Device (aka Taser); manipulatecartridges aim/fire projectile probes from a variety of positions in situations that justify the use of force whilemaintainingemotional control under extremely stressful situations.Conduct Taser aftercare procedures as required by policy and procedure.

• Maintains Taser Certification anddemonstratesTaserproficiencyannually through a certified Taser qualification test and a review of use of force policy.
