- SHIFT: first shift full time Monday through Friday
- SCHEDULE: 8:00AM - 4:30PM
- LOCATIONS: Middletown and Waterbury CT
- NOTE: Positions may become hybrid upon conclusion of a successful working test period.

The Department of Labors Appeals Division is comprised ofthe Referee Section and the Board of Review. The Employment Security AppealsDivision is an autonomous quasi-judicial agency housed in the Department ofLabor. It primarily hears and decides appeals arising from decisions of theAdministrator of the Connecticut Unemployment Compensation Act from which itis statutorily independent.
Inthis position you will be providing support to the appeals division includingsupporting Employment Security Appeals Referees. Responsibilities would include:
- Processing incoming correspondence received by mail fax and in-person.
- Uploading documentary evidence into electronic appeals case files.
- Assisting parties with filing appeals.
- Answering questions from the public by telephone and in-person.
- Maintaining records of contact from parties to appeals.
- Registering parties for hearings.
- Interpreting written and verbal communications from English to Spanish and Spanish to English.

Performs a variety of secretarial duties as described in the following areas:
- TYPING:
- Using computers tablets and other electronic equipment formats and types a full range of correspondence reports bills drafts etc. from rough draft transcription dictated notes etc.;
- Proofreads for content;
- Edits using knowledge of grammar punctuation and spelling.
- FILING:
- Designs office filing systems;
- Organizes and maintains files (including confidential files);
- Maintains updates and reviews reference materials and manuals.
- CORRESPONDENCE:
- Composes routine letters/memoranda etc. (e.g. standard replies andacknowledgement letters) for supervisors signature.
- REPORT WRITING:
- Compiles information from standard sources and prepares data reports (e.g. number of forms processed during the month).
- INTERPERSONAL:
- Greets and directs visitors;
- Answers phones and takes messages;
- Answers questions requiring knowledge of terminology organization supervisorsresponsibilities etc. (e.g. appropriate referrals general purpose of the unit).
- PROCESSING:
- Scans correspondence;
- Pulls and attaches related materials;
- Reviews routes and prioritizes mail.
- SECRETARY:
- Arranges and coordinates meetings (including space and equipment);
- Writes minutes of meetings lectures conferences etc. from rough draft;
- Takes notes and/or meeting minutes;
- Prepares expense accounts;
- Makes travel arrangements.
- OFFICE MANAGEMENT:
- Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment;
- Orders supplies when necessary;
- Completes processes and maintains paperwork for purchasing (e.g. ordersrequisitions invoices etc.);
- Maintains time and attendance records;
- Considerable knowledge of
- office systems and procedures;
- proper grammar punctuation and spelling;

Experience translating written correspondence from Spanishto English and English to Spanish.
Experience interpreting verbal communications from Spanish into English andEnglish into Spanish.
Experience utilizing a case management system (comparable to ReEmployCT) tomaintain client records.
Experience working in a judicial or quasi-judicial environment.
Experience with managing time to meet prescribed deadlines that may conflictwhile adhering to quantity and quality standards.
Experience typing and formatting written correspondence using Microsoft Word.
Experience in document management and scanning in a high production officeenvironment.
Experience providing customer service assistance to diverse populations andskill levels in a high production office environment.
