The Secondary Math Teacher is responsible for providing engaging standards-based mathematics instruction that promotes critical thinking problem-solving and mathematical reasoning. The teacher will create a positive learning environment that supports student achievement while preparing students for college careers and lifelong learning. The teacher will collaborate with colleagues families and school staff to ensure student success.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Mathematics
Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students
Integrate technology and real-world applications to enhance mathematical understanding
Assess student progress using formative and summative assessments and adjust instruction accordingly
Student Learning & Support
Foster a classroom environment that promotes respect collaboration and academic excellence
Encourage critical thinking problem-solving and analytical reasoning skills
Differentiate instruction to support students with diverse learning needs
Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback to students and families
Classroom Management
Establish and maintain effective classroom procedures and expectations
Promote positive student behavior through consistent classroom management practices
Ensure a safe inclusive and supportive learning environment
Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities
Collaborate with administrators counselors teachers and support staff to promote student success
Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress
Participate in faculty meetings professional learning communities and required professional development
Maintain accurate student records grades and attendance in accordance with district policies
School & Community Engagement
Support school initiatives and participate in school-wide activities as appropriate
Serve on committees or assist with extracurricular activities when assigned
Uphold district policies and maintain professional and ethical standards
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Mathematics Mathematics Education or a related field
Valid North Carolina teaching license in Mathematics (or eligibility to obtain licensure)
Knowledge of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Mathematics
Strong classroom management communication and organizational skills
Ability to build positive relationships with students families and colleagues
Commitment to continuous professional growth and student achievement
Working Conditions
Requires standing walking and moving throughout the instructional day
Occasional lifting of instructional materials and classroom equipment up to 20 pounds
Frequent use of computers instructional technology and classroom equipment
May require attendance at evening events parent conferences and school activities
