Scientist (Chemistry)

Location: San Antonio TX

Position Summary

We are seeking a Scientist with a Bachelors degree in Chemistry to support analytical testing in a fast-paced laboratory environment. This position will focus on performing and reviewing analytical methods operating laboratory instrumentation assisting with chemical experiments and supporting research staff. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented safety-conscious and able to work independently after training.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and review analytical testing using chromatographic methods and other laboratory techniques.

  • Operate and maintain laboratory instruments including gas chromatographs (GC) ion chromatographs (IC) and automatic switching valves.

  • Perform instrument calibration troubleshooting and routine maintenance.

  • Prepare samples and conduct laboratory analyses using balances pipettes syringes and other laboratory equipment.

  • Interpret test results review data and prepare laboratory documentation and reports.

  • Assist with chemical experiments and support project scientists on research activities.

  • Follow written and verbal procedures while maintaining accurate laboratory records.

  • Work safely with chemicals while adhering to laboratory safety protocols.

  • Communicate effectively with scientists and technical staff to ensure project objectives are met.

  • Perform additional laboratory duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Chemistry .

  • Minimum of 1 year of laboratory experience.

  • Strong background in chemistry mathematics and scientific principles.

  • Experience with chromatographic instrumentation (GC and/or IC) preferred.

  • Wet chemistry experience is a plus.

  • Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and good laboratory practices.

  • Ability to work independently after training with minimal supervision.

  • Strong attention to detail organization and communication skills.

  • Must be flexible to work second shift and occasional weekends based on workload.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods while performing laboratory work.

  • Comfortable working with chemicals in both laboratory and plant-like environments.

  • Ability to safely change compressed gas cylinders.

  • Occasional outdoor work may be required.

  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including steel-toed safety shoes.

Additional Requirements

  • Steel-toed safety shoes required.

  • Valid drivers license with a clear Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) required.

  • Flexibility to work evening/second shifts and weekends as needed.
