What You Will Do:

We are seeking a Scientist to develop optimize and conduct microdissections of human blood vessels from tissue specimens as part of the Institutional Review Board (IRB)-approved or IRB exempt studies and overall laboratory research support for Laboratory of Malaria and Vector Research (LMVR). This is a full-time on-site role in Rockville MD.

  • Conduct microdissections of human vessels prepare tissue for single-cell analysis of vascular cells genetically manipulate human vessels and assess function through molecular imaging and physiologic evaluations.
  • Culture vascular cells prepare cells for single-cell analysis perform genetic manipulation of cultured cells and assess function using molecular imaging and physiologic evaluations.
  • Develop refine and perform microdissections of human blood vessels from tissue specimens for IRB-approved or exempt studies.
  • Develop refine and conduct vascular cell culture and co-culture methods and optimize approaches for studying human vessels and cultured cells at the single-cell level in IRB-approved or exempt studies.
  • Characterize cultured cells using imaging gene expression and/or molecular sensors.
  • Perform vascular phenotyping of rodent models including mouse models of human diseases or conditions.
  • Perform biochemical characterization of protein-protein interactions involved in vascular cell signaling.
  • Work with staff on the interpretation of experiments performed by research scientists.
  • Independently direct and conduct special research projects that have a high priority for the laboratory with special emphasis on the development of novel research treatments.
  • Calibrate maintain and troubleshoot instruments and equipment in the laboratory.
  • Manage scientific equipment and resources including reagents frozen cell stocks and animal samples by overseeing acquisition documentation and storage.
  • Write technical reports and prepare manuscripts.
  • Oversee project data quality; analyze and interpret project data.
  • Maintain a detailed and up-to-date electronic laboratory notebook detailing all experiments.
  • Develop and evaluate pharmacologic strategies that target protein-protein interactions to alter vascular function in human vessels cells or animal models of vascular physiology or disease.
  • Prepare oral presentations and posters for internal and external groups/conferences.
  • Co-author manuscripts on research projects; publish in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Write papers and abstracts detailing research efforts and results for publication in peer-reviewed journals; prepare PowerPoint presentations as appropriate.
  • Produce research reports and regularly communicate results to staff and collaborators.
  • Train staff on proper equipment use and a broad range of laboratory techniques.

What You Will Need:

  • Masters degree in Biochemical Sciences or related field.
  • A minimum of SIX (6) years of laboratory research experience.
  • Experience with cell culture and vascular biology research techniques.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint Outlook Excel Word).
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex scientific data and produce technical reports.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including scientific publishing and presentations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research laboratory environment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD public trust; candidates must receive approved adjudication prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an active public trust or suitability are preferred.

What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Experience with single-cell analysis techniques.
  • Experience working with rodent models of disease.
  • Background in genetic manipulation and molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience presenting at national scientific meetings or publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Prior experience mentoring or training laboratory staff.

The annual salary range for this position is $130000.00-$216000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill sets experience and training security clearances licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs.
