Secondary Science Teacher (Middle School)

Job Summary:
Under the direction of the junior/senior high school principal the teacher would be working with s students at the secondary level to achieve excellence in middle school science with a strong emphasis on disciplinary foundations and skills prior to their high school science courses.


Qualifications:

Required:

  1. Minimum of BS/BA degree in Secondary Education
  2. Possess or be eligible for a valid Michigan teaching certificate with an Integrated Science (DI) or Science (DX) endorsement. .
  3. Highly Qualified by NCLB Standards
  4. Able to assess and document student progress
  5. Professional in personal conduct and actions
  6. Strong organizational classroom management collaboration and communication skills
  7. Demonstrated competence in the use of technology
  8. Active and continuous learner in the area of secondary education research-based instructional strategies and supporting the whole child at the secondary-level

Desired Characteristics:

  1. Experience in working with secondary students specifically middle school-aged.
  2. Familiarity and/or experience with Professional Learning Communities and leveraging classroom-level data to shape targeted instruction
  3. Experience with piloting new curricular resources and developing coherent standard-aligned curriculum mapping
  4. Ability to foster a learning environment prioritizing collaboration critical thinking and communication
  5. Experience using technology as an instructional tool and for monitoring student progress
  6. Knowledge in the use and application of G Suite and other Internet-based applications
  7. Understanding experience with and/or willingness to adhere to Standards Based Grading (SBG) and assessing
  8. Understanding of and experience with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and positive acknowledgements
  9. Take a leadership role within the staff to demonstrate effective pedagogical and curricular approaches applicable to colleagues across other departments and grade levels.
  10. Special consideration given to holders of multiple certifications outside of the science content endorsement(s)

  7. Seeks information about recent research current best practices and possesses a willingness to share information with colleagues
  8. Collaborates with staff to plan integrate and enhance subject-specific standards in the classroom and across Department
  9. Researches and attends trainings that further ones professional career and student success
  10. Initiates new programs that support the districts vision for high-quality teaching and learning
  11. Ensures students demonstrate proficiency on explicit standards
  12. Consistently implements agreed-upon programs consistent with essential job functions
  13. Collects and analyzes data to evaluate and improve teaching practice
  14. Creates establishes and maintains communication system between classroom and students parents/guardians
  15. Builds positive relationships with students colleagues parents/guardians and school community
  16. Other duties as assigned by administration
