    Steps Middle & High School is a grade 6-12 outplacement program for students receiving special education services who experience emotional social and behavioral obstacles. The school offers small class sizes and high staff to student ratios to provide the supervision instruction and individualized feedback to help students grow academically and personally. Students at Steps Middle & High School receive integrated behavioral and academic instruction from a multi-disciplinary team of certified content and special education teachers school social worker and counselor BCBA registered behavior technicians and paraeducators.

    Major Responsibilities

    • Provides individual and group counseling and interventions to support students with social-emotional behavioral and executive functioning skills development
    • Effectively partners as a member of the schools interdisciplinary team to apply restorative practices that promote accountability relationships and conflict resolution
    • Provides student performance data and insight to schools Planning and Placement Team for specific student needs.
    • Facilitates student independence by providing explicit instruction and regular feedback in thinking skills problem-solving skills self-evaluation skills self-discipline and decision-making
    • Assists students and families to understand factors which interfere with learning and engages parents in the educational process
    • Maintains a liaison role with community service providers and local school districts
    • Currates relevant and local post-high school opportunities and information regarding career college military and life style decisions
    • Other duties as may be assigned

    Qualifications

    • Valid Connecticut Education Endorsement: School Social Worker (071) or School Psychologist (070) or School Counselor (068)
    • Proficiency with IEP development the PPT process and special education regulations
    • Familiarity working within the CT-SEDS platform and PowerSchool
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to withstand the physical demands of frequent standing bending kneeling and therapeutic holding as required
    • Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this job
