Position Type: Part-Time / Consultant
Compensation: Contracted rate of $750 per year
Ipswich Public Schools is seeking a qualified licensed medical professional to serve as the School Physician. This is an annual consultant role focused on providing high-level medical expertise policy approval and consultation to support our comprehensive school health program and nursing staff.
Policy & Protocol Review: Annually review and approve standing orders for over-the-counter (OTC) medications and emergency protocols administered by the school nursing staff.
Clinical Consultation: Act as a medical resource and consultant to the Director of Nursing and school nurses regarding complex student health needs chronic disease management (e.g. allergies asthma diabetes) and immunization requirements.
Regulatory Compliance: Assist the district in interpreting and implementing federal and state school health regulations including those outlined by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH).
Community Liaison: Serve as a bridge between the school district and community primary care providers or local public health entities when systemic health issues or student care coordination needs arise.
Licensure: Must hold a valid unrestricted license to practice medicine (MD or DO) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (per M.G.L. c.71 s. 53).
Specialization: Background in Pediatrics Family Medicine or Adolescent Health preferred.
Knowledge Base: Familiarity with the public health and developmental needs of children and adolescents as well as Massachusetts school health mandates.
