Current Vacancy:
1 - position for 8 hours per day 203 work days per year.

This eligibility list will be valid for one year and will be used to fill any future vacancies during the time this list is active.

Purpose of Position
Conducts assessments develops goals and provides physical therapy services to improve student mobility and functional independence to support access to educational programs. Collaborates with families staff and health care providers to ensure services are aligned with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and applicable state and federal requirements.
Supervision
Receives supervision from the Director of Special Education or designee.
This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

1. Conducts comprehensive assessments of students gross motor skills mobility physical functioning and performance within classroom and campus settings to determine educational need for physical therapy services.
2. Distinguishes between educationally necessary and medically necessary physical therapy services and makes recommendations consistent with IDEA SELPA guidelines and District policies.
3. Prepares written evaluation reports summarizing assessment results present levels of performance and recommendations for IEP team consideration.
4. Develops measurable physical therapy goals and objectives aligned with students Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
5. Provides direct physical therapy services and implements individualized intervention plans to improve functional mobility and support access to curriculum and school activities.
6. Monitors and measures student progress toward IEP goals; adjusts intervention strategies based on student response and data.
7. Participates in IEP meetings case conferences and multidisciplinary team meetings to present findings and collaborate on service planning.
8. Collaborates with teachers administrators families medical providers and related service personnel to coordinate services.
9. Assesses recommends adapts and monitors the use of specialized mobility positioning and adaptive equipment; provides training regarding safe handling and equipment use.
10. Evaluates classroom and campus environments to identify accessibility needs and recommends modifications to support safe student mobility and participation.
11. Maintains clinical and administrative records in compliance with District SELPA state and federal requirements including documentation necessary for audits and reimbursement where applicable.
12. Establishes and maintains safe organized therapy environments and ensures equipment is maintained in functional condition.
13. Travels between school sites and program locations to deliver services and attend required meetings.
14. Performs related duties as assigned.

Employment Standards

For applicants licensed on or after January 1 2015 a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from an accredited college or university is required. Applicants licensed prior to this date may qualify with a masters or bachelors degree in physical therapy. One (1) year of experience providing physical therapy services; experience with children and youth with disabilities is desirable.

Licenses and Other Requirements
A valid license to practice as a Physical Therapist issued by the Physical Therapy Board of California and a valid California drivers license. Valid First Aid and CPR certifications. All licenses and certifications must be valid at the time of employment and maintained throughout employment.
Physical Requirements
Employees in this classification must be able to sit stand walk bend stoop and reach; lift push pull and carry up to 60 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs. with assistance; and assist with the movement of non-ambulatory students. Must have sufficient vision hearing and manual dexterity to perform required duties.
Working Environment
Employees in this classification work in classroom therapy and outdoor settings; travel between school sites; and may be exposed to bodily fluids cleaning agents and moderate noise levels. Work involves direct contact with students staff parents and the public.
