Location: Hamilton VA
Duration: Contract Assignment 5 Weeks
Shift:07:30 AM-12:30 PM
Navitas Healthcare LLC is seeking a compassionate and attentive School Patient Care Assistant (PCA) to provide dedicated support for students with diabetes in a school-based setting. This role focuses on assisting the healthcare team in monitoring and supporting diabetic students throughout the school day while ensuring student safety comfort and well-being.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with children strong observation skills and the ability to follow healthcare protocols in an educational environment.
- Provide one-on-one support for diabetic students during school hours
- Monitor blood glucose levels using Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) systems
- Serve as the second verifier for insulin dosing calculations alongside the school nurse
- Observe students for signs and symptoms of hypo- or hyperglycemia and report concerns promptly
- Assist students in maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment
- Communicate effectively with school nurses teachers parents and school staff regarding student needs
- Maintain accurate documentation related to student care and glucose monitoring
- Follow all school health policies safety procedures and confidentiality guidelines
- Support student mobility classroom participation and daily school activities as needed
- Participate in additional diabetes management training provided during the assignment
- The PCA will not administer insulin
- Additional diabetes management training will be provided
- The PCA will work under the supervision of the school nurse and healthcare team
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Experience working with children in a school healthcare daycare or support setting preferred
- Experience supporting diabetic individuals or medically complex children preferred
- Ability to monitor and document blood glucose readings accurately
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm and attentive in emergency situations
- Dependable patient and student-focused approach
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
- Previous PCA paraprofessional behavioral aide or school support experience
- Familiarity with Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) devices
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred
