POSITION: School Bus Monitor

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Assist in providing safe and efficient transportation of students for school districts curricular and extracurricular
programs.
HOURS:
Four to five hours per day
RATE OF PAY: $16.26/Hour
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for certification of good health signed by a licensed physician
- Ability to follow specific instructions
- Ability to safely secure students in wheelchairs car seats and cam-wraps
- Responsible for maintaining all mandatory safety regulations during operation of bus including the evacuation of bus
- Supervise students on bus; providing instructions on being responsible passengers and addressing concerns within school district policies and procedures
- Represent school district in a professional manner during interactions with students school community and staff
- Additional duties as assigned
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit kneel walk or stand
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to bend or twist at the neck and trunk
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required will reach while bending and often uses hand strength in securing and assisting special needs students
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to lift or move up 50 pounds and push or pull up to 100 pounds such as needs of students or students in wheelchair
- Ability to follow specific instructions
- Ability to safely secure students in wheelchairs car seats and cam-wraps
- Responsible for maintaining all mandatory safety regulations during operation of bus including the evacuation of bus
- Supervise students on bus; providing instructions on being responsible passengers and addressing concerns within school district policies and procedures
- Represent school district in a professional manner during interactions with students school community and staff
- While performing the duties of this job the employee will work in all types of weather
- Additional duties as assigned
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Must be able to perform their duties within specified time constraints
- Employee has direct responsibility for the safety and well being of others
- Responsible in the boarding and de-boarding of students
- Assist the driver by maintaining student discipline
- Responsible to make sure that all lap belts and other assistive devices for students are fastened and securement of wheelchairs
- Responsible to ensured safety and efficiency in the transportation of students
- Responsible for management of behavior and positive student interaction
- Responsible for making sure certain that a responsible person meets all students at home and by a classroom staff person at school
- Collect and turn over to the parent or classroom staff all students belongings
- Establish positive relationship with students
- Protect students
- Develop and implement a seating plan
- Maintain students security in the seat
- Responsible for students with keeping their noses and chin fluid free
- Responsible for all and any special needs are met which is a part of the transportation service
- Shall refrain from eating drinking or using tobacco products in or around bus
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possesses a valid Michigan drivers license
- Meet District/Michigan Department of Education standards
- Meets state and federal health requirements and be 21 years of age
- Pass physical examination requirements
- Meet drug/alcohol testing requirements
- Must be free from adverse effects of medication alcohol and other drugs
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality
- Maintains a high level of personal and professional flexibility
- Possesses strong interpersonal skills in working with students school community and staff
- High School Diploma or GED required
