Join our team as a Public Health Sanitarian and play a vital role in protecting the health and safety of communities across Louisiana! This dynamic position leads multiple public health and environmental consumer protection programs within a regional office while conducting impactful fieldwork inspections investigations and compliance activities statewide. This position requires routine statewide duties including fieldwork inspections investigations or direct services that extend beyond the employees domicile parish. These statewide responsibilities are an inherent and ongoing part of the job and may require frequent travel.
- Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of a current Louisiana Sanitarians license plus one of the following which must include one year of experience at the supervisory level or above:
Five years of experience as a sanitarian; OR
A masters degree in public health food science dairy science environmental or sanitary science or one of the physical or biological sciences plus four years of experience as a sanitarian.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in the Molluscan Shellfish program require that applicants complete the Louisiana Boating Education program and be certified by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. - Job Specification

- Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
- Oversees and evaluates multiple Environmental Health programs inspections databases and regional compliance activities to ensure public health goals and mandated inspections are completed and documented.
- Provides leadership guidance and technical support to regional and parish Environmental Health staff regarding state and federal public health laws regulations and enforcement procedures.
- Supervises Environmental Health personnel including reviewing performance approving leave and travel conducting evaluations and recommending personnel actions.
- Reviews inspection reports productivity data enforcement documentation and operational directives to ensure compliance with agency standards and program requirements.
- Serves as liaison between Central Office administration and regional/parish staff to coordinate staffing emergency response activities and resolution of environmental health issues.
- Conducts and manages enforcement conferences negotiates compliance agreements and provides technical expertise and testimony during hearings investigations and legal proceedings.
- Performs field assessments and supports emergency and infectious disease response activities including foodborne illness investigations and environmental health incident coordination.
