Join the Louisiana Department of Health as a Sanitarian 4 where youll lead specialized environmental health efforts by inspecting and regulating individual sewerage systems licensing installers and providing technical support across Region 4. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to work independently support underserved parishes and play a vital role in safeguarding the health and well-being of Louisiana residents.
This position requires routine statewide duties including fieldwork inspections investigations or direct services that extend beyond the employees domicile parish. These statewide responsibilities are an inherent and ongoing part of the job and may require frequent travel.
- Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of a current Louisiana Sanitarians license plus one of the following:
Three years of experience as a sanitarian; OR
A masters degree in public health food science dairy science environmental or sanitary science or one of the physical or biological sciences plus two years of experience as a sanitarian.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in the Molluscan Shellfish program require that applicants complete the Louisiana Boating Education program and be certified by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. - Job Specification

- Job Duties and Other Information
- Job Duties:
- Plans coordinates and oversees the Individual Sewage Program for Region 4 ensuring compliance with state regulations and program requirements.
- Conducts complex inspections investigations and evaluations of individual sewage systems including verifying installations resolving compliance issues and investigating public complaints.
- Provides technical guidance and consultation to environmental health staff contractors manufacturers public officials and the public on individual sewage system regulations and best practices.
- Trains mentors and supports environmental health staff and sewage program coordinators including conducting installer licensing training and educating new employees on state sewage regulations.
- Reviews applications audits reports and program records; prepares enforcement documentation technical reports training materials and other administrative records to support program operations.
- Collaborates with local governments industry representatives and community organizations to promote environmental health initiatives provide technical expertise and represent the Office of Public Health in meetings and enforcement proceedings.
- Assists Region 4 parishes with environmental health services special projects and emergency program needs while serving in a leadership capacity during the absence of the Sanitarian Regional Manager.
