Safety Supervisor

Position SummaryThis position is responsible for planning organizing assigning supervising and participating in the work of staff who deliver the Districts safety programs and safety training. The role ensures effective practices are in place to minimize occupational injuries illnesses and vehicle collisions and to maintain compliance with all applicable federal state and local ResponsibilitiesProvides day-to-day leadership and guidance to staff to ensure a high-performance customer serviceoriented work environment that supports the mission strategic plan objectives and values of the department and the in the selection and training of assigned personnel; establishes work priorities and routines; and assigns tasks to ensure efficient monitors and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel; sets performance expectations and development goals; provides ongoing coaching and feedback; and with management concurrence administers disciplinary actions in accordance with District by example and coaches staff to promote safe work practices throughout the a collaborative one-District approach to safety by closely coordinating with other safety personnel and supporting District-wide safety the implementation of the departments risk and hazard assessment training needs for departmental personnel and coordinates the scheduling and completion of required assigned District safety training programs as personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and assists with procurement and ensuring proper to the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures related to safety in facility inspections conducted by the Safety Department and ensures corrective actions are implemented for identified and implements departmental safety programs procedures and protocols as safety briefings and updates during departmental and interprets applicable federal state consensus standards and industry-recognized safety regulations and in emergency response exercises and provides recommendations related to risk management and emergency incidents determines root causes develops corrective actions and maintains records including OSHA 300 logs; utilizes Maximo HSE as the safety information management RequirementsEducation & Experience:A bachelors degree in risk management safety management public health process safety engineering chemical safety engineeringindustrial hygiene or a related STEM field desired or a combination of education technical qualifications (CSHO) and experience may be substituted. Minimum of five years of experience in safety accident prevention and loss control programs desired; at least two years in a supervisory role preferred.A National Accredited Certification such as a Certified Industrial Hygienist Certified Safety Professional Registered Safety Engineer or Certified Marine Chemist highly Skills & Abilities:Knowledge of principles and practices related to accident prevention loss control process safety management and industrial of applicable safety standards including those issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality American National Standards Institute National Electrical Code National Fire Protection Association and Occupational Safety and Health to effectively train and coach employees on safety programs procedures and best to collect analyze and compile information from oral and written instructions to prepare reports and materials for District to organize and prioritize workload based on immediate needs work objectives schedules and anticipated future to communicate effectively in person and by telephone in one-on-one and small-group to work collaboratively with District staff and representatives from other governmental to identify hazardous or unsafe conditions and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risks and prevent accidents or injuries to employees and the and Physical Working ConditionsDriving a District vehicle for business will be required. Employees required to drive as part of their job duties are responsible for maintaining a current valid and vehicle - appropriate driver s license of their resident duties and responsibilities are generally performed in a water and wastewater conveyance and treatment and solid waste processing and disposal environment. The position involves sitting (up to 6 hours per day) frequent standing frequent walking light to heavy lifting (up to 75 lbs.) light carrying frequent bending and reaching keyboarding and telephone operation. It often requires an irregular work schedule including outside of normal business hours. Specific physical conditions require frequent work with chemicals tools machinery moving mechanical parts duties and responsibilities are performed both indoors and outdoors. Moderate to heavy exposure to dirt dust pollen odors wetness humidity biological hazards rain temperature and noise extremes hazardous materials and chemicals machinery moving mechanical parts vibrations electric currents traffic hazards and water hazards are common. Performs and reviews work at locations that involve hazardous environments requiring the physical ability to wear and work using personal protective equipment (PPE) that meets or exceed guidelines such as established by OSHA which may result in some physical discomfort due to temperature dust odors chemicals and noise. The position may require work in confined spaces on ladders and rooftops and in adverse weather conditions with appropriate training. Must be able to pass annual medical evaluation and receive certification to utilize respiratory protection equipment by work assignment post-employment offer. Must meet shaving requirements for respiratory fit test at all times. Must be able to pass hazardous materials medical examination andtest during pre-employment.
