Description of Work

It is the intent and primary purpose of this position to plan and administer a safety and health program for a long-term care and monitor the daily missions of Broughton Hospital J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center and J.F. Keith Alcohol and Abuse Treatment Center. This position will perform a variety of administrative duties in the development and implementation of the safety and health programs at these facilities in the Western Region. This employee will identify and plan the correction of safety hazards safety training and provide consultative services to management on safety and safety-related matters. This employee will be the Regional Lead Safety Officer for Black Mountain Neuro Treatment Center (BMNTC).

The position of Regional Lead Safety and Health Director is to assist with developing coordinating administering and maintaining a comprehensive safety and health program at the facilities in the Western Region. This includes compliance with OSHA EPA/DEQ standards. The incumbent must have specific and thorough understanding of applicable standards. Examples of standards that are applied during inspections include but are not limited to: walking-working surfaces powered platforms aerial lifts hazardous materials personal protective equipment control of hazardous energy permit required confined spaces materials handling and storage machinery and machine guarding hand and portable powered welding cutting and brazing and electrical. Potential safety risks shall be identified and evaluated through Job Safety Analysis and Hazard Analysis. Steps to remove hazards shall be implemented including engineering and redesign of a task.

Salary Grade Range: $55221.00 - $96639.00

Recruitment Range: $81970.00 - $87899.00

  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Regulations. Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA standards state safety regulations risk management principles and applicable healthcare and government safety requirements to ensure regulatory compliance and a safe work environment.

  • Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment Skill in identifying workplace hazards conducting safety inspections performing risk assessments investigating incidents and developing effective corrective and preventive actions.

  • Emergency Management and Incident Response Ability to develop implement and evaluate emergency preparedness programs coordinate emergency response activities and apply Incident Command System (ICS) principles during planned events and emergencies.

  • Communication and Training Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to develop and deliver safety training educate employees on safe work practices prepare reports and effectively communicate with leadership employees and external regulatory agencies.

  • Collaboration and Problem Solving Ability to build collaborative relationships with management employees Workers Compensation staff and other stakeholders to resolve safety concerns promote a positive safety culture analyze trends and implement continuous process improvements.

Physical Requirements (If Applicable):

The Regional Lead Safety and Health Director may be exposed to several environmental exposures confines and constraining conditions or outdoor elements. Examination of basements and areas containing asbestos lead paint high voltage equipment chemical storage adverse environmental conditions etc. is a frequent routine of this worker. This individual is also exposed to patient/student including exposure to aggressive clients. The office for The Regional Lead Safety and Health Director is located within a facility or division. There are some periods of sitting walking standing bending squatting etc. There is daily use of computer display terminal. There is some travel involved.

    Bachelors degree with a major in safety management occupational safety industrial technology or one of the physical sciences from an appropriately accredited institution and a minimum of two years of progressive occupational and safety and health experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
