Job Summary
JOB SUMMARY: Manages the day-to-day operations of Costume Operations including implementation of fittings events management of Costuming team members to meet the daily operational expectations. Responsible for maintaining costume integrity and quality for UO. Provides supervision and direction to Supervisors and Coordinators and ensures the successful staffing and execution of venue and department operations.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor daily labor usage to ensure budgeted hours are effectively used to fully support the business. Manage staffing levels ensuring hourly staffing is adequately to support daily operational and fitting needs. Ensure all policies and procedures are applied accurately consistently and in a timely manner including team member coaching development and merit evaluations. Identify developmental areas for team members and assist in establishing training & development programs to address and improve performance. Maintain positive team member relations and open communication with teams. Coordinate fittings with partners.
- Assist Show Direction and Fabrication with costume troubleshooting and costume changes. Maintain costumes daily by doing general repairs and monitoring quality contacting others when more detailed or advanced repairs are necessary. Anticipate show/project/event costume needs and initiate timely solutions (i.e. notifying supervision). Make sure all costume pieces are in safe and working order. Making sure all costume pieces are intact with no issues for performer safety.
- Oversee the cleaning and maintenance all costume pieces through hand washing machine washing spot cleaning and sending out for dry cleaning. Monitor inventory for wear and tear and ask for replacements as needed. Make sure that all safety straps and/or restraints are in good working order before/during/after washing process. Report any safety integrity issues to CTs Stitchers and Fabrication as soon as possible to avoid any performer injuries.
- Oversee the fitting team in fitting new performers for shows/projects/events. Assist in documentation and note completion. Monitor dry cleaning and repair orders to include checking orders upon return from vendor and notifying management of discrepancies. Observe shows/projects/events for costume appearance notes and relay those observations to management. Assist with set up of costumes for new character or shows/projects/events by arranging for storage space within the issue area/venue gathering costume pieces incorporating new costumes into the current process of preset issue and cleaning etc
- Understands and actively participates in Environmental Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy procedures training and Team Member involvement activities.

EDUCATION:Associates degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred
EXPERIENCE:2 years professional experience managing a Theatrical based costume shop or area is required; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in show development preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in care and cleaning processes as it relates to different costume textiles.
