Precinct 4 is seeking an experienced highly skilled Infrastructure Inspector to join our Road & Bridge team. This senior-level role focuses on performing detailed inspections of horizontal civil construction projects (roadways bridges drainage and related infrastructure) with occasional support for vertical construction elements. The inspector will work hand-in-hand with the Road & Bridge team to ensure high-quality construction that meets or exceeds project specifications contract documents Harris County standards & requirements TxDOT standards and applicable codes.
Key responsibilities include verifying compliance during construction documenting work thoroughly identifying and resolving issues and supporting final road acceptance processes. This position demands seasoned expertise in public-sector infrastructure inspection strong independent judgment problem-solving skills and a commitment to safety accuracy and public service. Ideal candidates will have significant prior experience with county or TxDOT-level projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct thorough on-site inspections of civil construction projects including roadways bridges drainage systems traffic control and related infrastructure to ensure compliance with plans specifications special provisions contract documents and applicable standards.
Review construction plans drawings specifications and schedules for municipal and precinct roadway/drainage projects; interpret technical documents and identify potential issues early.
Perform detailed measurements material verifications workmanship assessments and visual/functional checks to confirm that installation methods materials and construction practices meet required quality and performance standards.
Monitor contractor operations including traffic control phasing barricades and safety measures; ensure compliance with approved plans and standards.
Identify deficiencies nonconforming work or potential problems; document findings and recommend corrective actions to contractors engineers and project staff.
Review detailed construction reports inspection logs field notes checklists progress updates quantities equipment/material/labor records photographs and other documentation using the e-Builder software platform (Harris Countys standard system for all project records reports and supporting documentation).
Verify that all materials delivered and installed are approved tested and conform to project specifications and Material Producer Lists or equivalent requirements.
Calculate or verify quantities for payment purposes; assist with monthly and final estimates as needed.
Coordinate with contractors engineers technical staff residents and the public to address questions resolve construction-related issues and facilitate smooth project execution.
Document and respond to citizen complaints regarding construction activities coordinating resolutions with Road & Bridge team members.
Participate in pre-construction meetings progress meetings and final inspections/road acceptance processes.
Maintain accurate project records to support successful project closeout and acceptance.
Perform other duties as assigned to support Precinct 4s infrastructure goals.
Associates or Bachelors degree in construction management civil engineering a related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and extensive experience will be considered.
Licensure:
Valid Texas drivers license.

Work is on active construction sites involving pervasive hazards associated with heavy equipment and tool operations; speeding traffic; loud and constant noise; and regular exposure to chemicals dust fumes and combustible materials.
Required to work outdoors on varied and often unstable terrain involving exposure to varying weather conditions of extreme hot and cold temperatures.
Some working conditions require special precautions and the use of protective gear (e.g. hard hats respirator masks gloves etc.)
Physical Demands:
