About This Unit

The Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) is a 36-bed intensive care unit located within the nationally recognized Meijer Heart Center. As a leader in cardiovascular critical care the CTICU provides highly specialized care for critically ill patients recovering from cardiac surgery and those requiring advanced heart failure therapies. Nurses have the opportunity to practice at the top of their clinical expertise in a fast-paced highly collaborative environment.

Our team cares for a diverse population of complex patients including individuals undergoing heart and lung transplantation advanced heart failure treatment and open-heart surgery recovery. Team members develop expertise in managing some of the most advanced circulatory support technologies available including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP) Impella CentriMag and ventricular assist devices (VADs).

As a regional destination for advanced cardiac care the CTICU serves some of Michigans most critically ill cardiovascular patients. Nurses and multidisciplinary team members are at the forefront of cardiovascular medicine contributing to innovative therapies leading-edge research and clinical advancements that continue to shape the future of patient care.

Scope of work

Assumes shift accountability for managing supervising and coordinating the operational and financial effectiveness and efficiency of the nursing service/ unit of the hospital. Some service lines may require the ability to be available for on-call to better support the nursing service/unit. Additionally Inpatient Supervisors may be required to fill-in for the hospital supervisor as needed. Key responsibilities include assisting with the following: clinical support unit based goal setting program development fiscal management resource allocation standards of care policy and procedure development and interpretation performance improvement performance correction and coaching and mentoring.

Corewell Health Nurse Supervisors are REQUIRED to obtain their Nursing Administration or Professional/Specialty Certification within 12 months of assuming the role or within 12 months of achieving eligibility to sit for the exam if not eligible upon hire in to the role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in nursing (BSN) Required.
  • Masters degree in nursing (MSN) Preferred.
  • The skills knowledge and abilities typically gained through 1 year of related clinical experience in area of specialty (cardiac) Required.
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required.
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days Required.
  • NIH Stroke Certification (NIHSS) within 90 days Required.
