Registered Nurse (RN) PICU / PCICU Float Pool (Travel Contract)

Unit Overview (PICU / PCICU)
  • 1923 Bed Pediatric ICU

  • Average Census: 1518 patients/day

  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 2:1

  • Patient Population:

    • Respiratory conditions

    • Congenital heart disease

    • Hematology/Oncology

    • Post-operative care

    • Trauma cases

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality critical care to pediatric patients

  • Manage ventilators drips and post-op recovery

  • Collaborate with intensivists and multidisciplinary teams

  • Maintain accurate documentation using EPIC

  • Float as needed within pediatric units

Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of PICU experience

  • Active Illinois RN License

  • BLS & PALS Certification (Required)

  • NRP (Preferred)

  • First-time travelers accepted

Support & Staffing
  • Charge Nurse available on every shift

  • CNA support for patient care & room turnover

  • Respiratory Therapy (RT) 24/7

  • Hospitalist & Intensivist coverage 24/7

  • IV/VAT Team available

  • Phlebotomy services in-house

  • Telemetry monitoring when needed

Technology & Equipment
  • EMR: EPIC

  • IV Pumps: Alaris

  • Medication Dispensing: Pyxis

  • Patient Monitoring: Med Sonic

Floating
  • May float to:

    • NICU

    • General Pediatrics

Scheduling & Shift Details
  • Shift: Night Shift (7:00 PM 7:00 AM)

  • Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend

  • Holiday Requirement: 75% of holidays

  • Schedule Cycle: 6 weeks

  • RTO: Requires Resource Team approval

Orientation
  • New Employee Orientation (NEO)

  • 2 days unit-specific orientation (PICU/PCICU)
