RN Intake Coordinator in the Behavioral Healthcare Services setting performs duties within the scope of practice for his/her license as defined by California Department of Consumer Affairs. RN Intake Coordinator screens clients contacting GMH Behavioral Health via phone e-fax or other method for possible admission. Coordinates admissions to inpatient services.
Processes inquiries by performing a clinical assessment of needed intensity of service and insurance coverage. Logs and handles all inquiries in a professional manner per policy.

  • Performs an initial clinical review and/or assessment of psychiatric patients to determine in collaboration with the psychiatrist what level of care is required for treatment.
  • Completes/updates patient information on intake log to maintain accuracy of demographics relevant data from patients medical record and documentation received from referral source.
  • For inpatient admissions the RN Intake Coord acts as a liaison with the physician insurance company business office Utilization Review and unit staff.
  • Maintains effective communication with community agencies that refer patients. Contributes to the ongoing development of new referral sources.
  • Understands and is able to communicate admission and exclusionary criteria and regulations for the behavioral health program and related services.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of two(2) years of acute psychiatric experience in nursing
  • 1 (one) year BHU intake experience
  • Current and Active Registered Nurse: CA
  • AHA Basic Life Support
