Registered Nurse (RN) Flex Pool (Medical-Surgical / Step-Down) Nights Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and adaptable Registered Nurse (RN) to join a Flex Pool team on a contract assignment. This position requires floating between various Medical-Surgical and Step-Down units to provide high-quality patient care based on staffing and patient care needs. The ideal candidate is clinically strong flexible and comfortable working across multiple inpatient settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients in Medical-Surgical and Step-Down units.

  • Float between assigned patient care areas as needed to support operational and staffing requirements.

  • Conduct patient assessments develop care plans and evaluate patient responses to treatment.

  • Administer medications treatments and therapeutic interventions in accordance with physician orders and nursing standards.

  • Monitor patient conditions and promptly communicate significant changes to the healthcare team.

  • Utilize critical thinking and sound clinical judgment to prioritize and coordinate patient care.

  • Collaborate with physicians therapists case managers and interdisciplinary team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

  • Accurately document patient care activities and assessments within the electronic medical record (EMR).

  • Maintain compliance with infection control standards patient safety initiatives and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications Required
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license or ability to obtain required state licensure before assignment start.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent acute care nursing experience.

  • Experience in Medical-Surgical and/or Step-Down nursing environments.

  • Strong clinical assessment communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to adapt quickly to different patient populations and unit workflows.

  • Willingness to float between multiple units as needed.

Required Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

Preferred Certifications
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)

  • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)

  • Procedural Sedation Certification

Clinical Areas Supported

The Flex Pool RN may be assigned to:

  • Medical-Surgical Units

  • Surgical Acute Care Units

  • Cardiovascular/Step-Down Units (as needed)

Assignments will be based on patient census acuity and staffing needs.

Equipment & Technology

Experience with the following equipment and systems is preferred:

  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems

  • Automated medication dispensing systems (e.g. Pyxis)

  • Wound Vacuum-Assisted Closure (VAC) devices

  • Chest Tube Management Systems

Schedule
  • Night Shift

  • 12-Hour Shifts (6:45 PM 7:15 AM)

  • Approximately 36 scheduled hours per week following orientation

  • Hours are based on facility needs and are not guaranteed

  • Holiday coverage required

Orientation & Training
  • Comprehensive orientation provided.

  • Unit-specific training included for each clinical area where the nurse may be assigned.

  • Additional onboarding and employee health requirements must be completed prior to the start of the assignment.

Dress Code
  • Professional nursing attire

  • Clean scrubs required

Assignment Details
  • Contract Position

  • 13-Week Assignment

Additional Requirements
  • Candidates must obtain all required state licensure prior to the start of the assignment.

  • Proof of required immunizations and immunity status must be provided.

  • Medical or religious exemption requests will not be accepted in place of required immunity documentation.

  • References must be submitted according to assignment guidelines.
