SUMMARY Provides professional nursing assessment prioritize treatment according to need and initiate medical care to patients arriving at the emergency department. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Quickly assess nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed or need for additional assistance. Assign a triage priority based on observations and available information Interviews patient (if possible) and/or family to obtain required history and make an accurate assessment. Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards policies procedures and protocol. Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation understanding and allay apprehension. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved policies utilizing the 5 rights of medication administration. Aids Physician during treatment and examination of patient. Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient. Observes patient records significant conditions and reactions and notifies supervisor or Physician of patients condition and reaction to drugs treatments and significant incidents. Takes temperature pulse blood pressure and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient. Documents nursing history and physical assessment for assigned patients.

Shift: 7p-7a / 36 hrs per week / weekend and holiday rotation
