As an important member of the Computed Tomography (CT) Imaging Physics and Algorithm team the Research Scientist will develop innovative physics-based solutions/corrections and support medical imaging platform needs by leading image quality improvements in CT by developing cutting edge Photon Counting systems.
Your role:
Apply system-level engineering approach to develop CT/X-ray imaging features focusing on signal and image processing CT reconstruction and calibration to optimize image quality. Leverages strong systems-level and scanner experience to ensure end-to-end performance across the imaging chain.
Investigate and resolve image quality issues during product introduction and from the installed base communicating findings clearly to stakeholders. Delivers safe effective and well-documented solutions based on rigorous data analysis.
Develop and enhance R&D tools for physics-based simulation and image formation including benchmarks dataflow requirements and Software Requirement Specifications. Works primarily in MATLAB with increasing use of Python and optional C for performance-critical components.
Maintain deep expertise in CT physics and advanced processing algorithms with strong emphasis on photon-counting CT as a top priority. Brings additional knowledge in spectral dual-energy and multi-energy CT as well as cone beam CT enabling improved material differentiation and image quality optimization.
Drive innovation by owning the CT imaging physics roadmap and aligning with business strategy across clinical marketing and systems teams. Stays current on emerging technologies such as AI/deep learning contributes to IP and publications and represents the organization in regulatory and industry engagements.
Youre the right fit if:
You have 3 years of combined professional and graduate-level research experience in Physics/Medical Imaging (CT and/or X-ray preferred) as an individual contributor.
You have a minimum of a Ph.D. in Physics Mathematics Biomedical Electrical or Nuclear Engineering (or related field) with a background in the theory of medical image formation and reconstruction (preferred).
You bring strong technical expertise in CT/X-ray imaging signal and image processing CT reconstruction calibration and systems-level/scanner understanding. Differentiating skills include experience with photon counting and/or spectral CT (dual-/multi-energy imaging) as well as cone beam CT physics-based simulation and hands-on prototype or scanner work.
You are experienced in MATLAB (primary) Python (increasing use) and C (preferred) including GUI and C-MEX functionality and familiarity with AI/deep learning frameworks (e.g. PyTorch TensorFlow preferred).
You have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document and clearly explain complex algorithms imaging chain trade-offs and cross-functional impacts to non-specialists.
You must be able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this position. Travel up to 10% may be required.

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the companys facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the companys main facilities generally at the customers or suppliers locations.

Philips Transparency Details:
The pay range for this position OH is $115000 - $183000.
The actual base pay offered may vary within the posted ranges depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills experience business needs geographical location and internal equity.
In addition other compensation such as an annual incentive bonus sales commission or long-term incentives may be offered. At Philips it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each case.
