Job Summary
POSITION SUMMARY:The Research Fellow will conduct translational ocular immunology research focused on immune mechanisms of retinal injury inflammation neurodegeneration and repair. The fellow will perform in vivo and in vitro studies using surgical parabiosis immune-cell tracing ocular injury models retinal disease models flow cytometry imaging and multi-omic approaches to define how microglia and peripheral immune cells contribute to retinal remodeling and degeneration. Responsibilities will include designing and executing experiments analyzing and presenting data reviewing literature assisting with animal protocols and grants and preparing manuscripts for publication. The goal of the position is to support the development of novel immune-targeted molecular therapies for retinal degenerative and inflammatory diseases.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Read analyze and summarize published literature
- Perform experiments and animal surgery
- Maintain animal colonies
- Design and execute in vitro and in vivo experiments
- Perform multi-omic experiments
- Undertake relevant coursework if required by mentor
- Attend relevant meetings
- Write and revise animal protocols and amendments
- Meet regularly with mentor to review project progress and milestones
- Plan and deliver a seminar on the project
- Take administrative (inventory purchasing etc.) responsibilities in the lab when necessary
- Write a final report or submit a manuscript to a peer-reviewed journal describing the project and results
- Assist in grant writing
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Doctoral degree (MD or PhD) with more than 1 year of lab experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Lab setting.

Possible lifting of 10 to 20 lbs. depending on nature of chosen project(s).
