Regular Student Intern UCO Foundation

Position Overview

This is a regular student intern position which aligns with President Lambs goal of providing students with meaningful work experiences that translate into the workplace after graduation. The student will have the opportunity to shadow Directors of Development within the colleges assist with their day-to-day work and support the AVP for Public Relations and the Director of Strategic Engagement and Partnerships. The UCO Foundation and University Advancement connects alumni donors friends corporations foundations and other partners with opportunities to make a meaningful impact at the University of Central Oklahoma. The Development team builds relationships discovers philanthropic interests connects those interests with University priorities and works collaboratively with campus partners to cultivate solicit and steward charitable support.

Department Specific Job Functions

• Partner with Senior Directors of Development and Directors of Development on activities throughout the donor development cycle including prospect identification qualification cultivation solicitation and stewardship.
• Conduct donor and prospect research using approved resources and develop concise profiles briefings and background materials to help development officers prepare for meetings calls visits and events.
• Assist with the preparation of donor correspondence meeting materials proposals presentations reports talking points contact lists and other fundraising materials.
• Support donor engagement by assisting with meeting preparation scheduling follow-up and tracking next steps and action items.
• Help document donor and prospect interactions through contact reports notes record updates and other information that supports effective relationship management.
• Assist with stewardship efforts that demonstrate the impact of philanthropy including acknowledgments donor recognition impact communications and other meaningful touchpoints.
• Participate in the planning and execution of donor visits campus experiences cultivation activities stewardship events and other opportunities to engage donors and prospects.
• Collaborate with Foundation University Advancement and campus colleagues on projects and initiatives that advance fundraising priorities and strengthen donor relationships including alumni friends of UCO corporations non-profits and private foundations.
• Handle donor and prospect information with discretion and in accordance with University and Foundation policies.
• Assist with special projects and other philanthropy and development responsibilities as assigned providing broad exposure to the work of a university advancement program.

Enrollment Requirements

Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. F1/J1 Visa students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee. Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.

Summer Semester: To work in a regular student position during the summer semester students must be enrolled in at least 3 summer credit hours or be enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in the minimum credit hours required for their classification and employment type. Students enrolled in fewer than 3 summer credit hours will be subject to FICA taxes during the summer term which apply to both the student and the department. For Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) positions students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (graduate).

Note: New incoming students are not eligible for student employment until the semester in which they begin classes.

Enrollment Exception: If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. This pertains to both regular and Federal Work Study Program positions. Contact for more information.

Qualifications/Experience Required

• Current UCO student who meets the University student employment enrollment requirements.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when working with donor and prospect information.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and willingness to learn advancement databases and related systems.

Qualifications/Experience Preferred

• Interest in philanthropy fundraising nonprofit management communications marketing business public relations higher education or a related field.
• Strong writing research organizational and customer-service skills.
• Experience with projects events communications research student organizations customer service or other relationship-focused activities.
